Re: What is all the BS I\'m hearing about Matsui not elligible for ROY??

There shouldn't be an age limit of any kind.

I didn't hear much about Ichiro's ROY. Writers didn't write much about it, and some voiced their opinions, but after he won it, it all quiet down. Why didn't you change it then?!

Why do you take the guys Japanese experience into consideration? JBL was said to be somewhere around AAA and MLB. There's a learning curve, and nothing is guaranteed in this league.

This is the guy's FIRST year in MLB, so therefore he's a ROOKIE.

How about this, the ROY was named after Jackie Robinson. The guy came from another PRO league, Negro Leagues. The first five of six players who won the ROY, were from another PRO league.

Our stats and records indicate that this is Matsui's first year in the MLB league. Therefore he's as much elligible as another player from the Minor Leagues. Why should we count the player's experience from another country, when we even don't count their stats or records. All stats and records are from the MLB.
And another thing, we play the "World Series", even though all the elligible teams come from MLB. We don't play other countries'/Leagues' players/teams.

" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "
    - Lavar Arrington on his new Redskins teammate Sean Taylor.

I also agree. While Japanese baseball is probably the equivalent of AAA, they are still veteran players when they get here. They've been under the spotlight and played in big games.

Exactly. The fact of the matter is that these guys have experience, and they don't have the mindset of a typical rookie. As said before, they have already been under the spotlight and played in the big games. Part of being a rookie is that you are at a disadvantage because you don't have the experience many of the veteran players have. This isn't true for players who played professional ball in Japan.

Take it easy, AI. Because of the precedent they set with Ichiro, they're going to give that Japanese mercenary who plays LF for your team the rookie of the year. The only reason you're even making a stink is because Matsui is a yankee and winning awards is all you yambags worry about. So don't talk about a bias when you're banging us on the head with your own.

The precedent was established with Hideo Nomo.

Yeah, I'm making a "stink" because Matsui is a Yankee player. And because I got involved, I realized that Jap. plyers are as big of a rookie, as anyone else. At least, by rule they're.
Now, I'm not going to stay quiet while my guy gets screwed by the same guys who voted for Ichiro. You wanna change it after Matsui won it, no problem. But he better not get the shaft, because now that there is a Yankee in the mix, they have to make some changes.

And yes, I do feel proud that my franchise is the best in all of sports.

When Ichiro won the ROOK he was head and shoulders above any other (traditional) rookie of that year-- Hell, he was the best player in the game. This season though, Matsui is a hair better than Texeira in my opinion... so, it's a tough call, but listening to AI's humbled and impassioned plea for his screwed over yanks sure is swaying my vote.

And there was a lot of chatter about Ichiro winning the award when he won it, and Nomo also. Just because you have selective memory AI doesn't mean the rest of us should.
