I'm not a fan of Waldman or Sterling. I also do not like Bobby Valentine on the ESPN telecast. Last week during the Yanks BoSox game he took a jab at the Yanks every chance he could. The sting of losing to the Yanks in 2000 still hurt Bobby?

Probably not as much as the sting of the Yankees not firing Girardi and giving him a shot at managing the Yankees (as had been rumored).

Everybody associated with Fox. There's a lot of times I won't watch World Series games because of him. But everybody with Fox is just painful.

As far as Hawk goes, I grew up listening to Santo, Harry and Chip Caray. Hawk aint any worse than those, so I cant really hate him. Plus he really hates Jay Mariotti, and well that's a huge bonus point in my book.

He doesn't have the greatest voice in the world (I know because I have to hear him for about 140 games) but I think he cancels that out with some of his insight and good on air chemistry with Pat Tabler.

Everytime I hear "an A-bomb, from A-Rod" or "Thuh-uhhhhhh Yankees win", I want to stick knitting needles in my ears.

And McCarver ...... it isn't even fair to point him out anymore.... it's just a given. The "smells his balls" comment during the WS re: Wilson should have had him kicked off the air, whether he meant it or not. Fox blew their chance there.

Re: What anouncers can't you stand?

I don't think it is fair to go by "highlights/sig. calls" only to judge an announcer. Just hearing him talk baseball over the course of the game is great.

And then he references his career about 2 or 3 times a game ("I remember back in 69 when I was in Pawtucket we had 4 lefties in our starting rotation. And I remember Yaz came up to me and said 'Hawk, thats a lot of lefties', home run Thome 2-0 Twins. So that just goes to show that you can have 4 lefties in one rotation"

How many other former players are the play by play announcer. I can't think of one. Somebody help me out here....

I love the Hawk. Every team has the homer announcers but maybe it was because my roommate at State was a big time White Sox fan so I rooted for them as well and grew a custom to them.

I don't really care for Buck/McCarver and that's about it. Normally when my Dodgers are on fox, I try to match the TV up with the radio sync and just listen to Charlie Steiner and Rick Monday. Simple fix.

Not many off the top of my head. Buck Martinez was a player back in the day and so was Alan Ashby (when he slides over to the TV side) It's more common for former players to be color guys and not PBP guys.

Every team has the homer announcer but some teams force it more than others.

Steve Stone was fired by the Cubs because he got too critical of the team a few years back during a september when they just completely stunk. Tribune wanted him to put a rosey spin on things and he wouldn't so they fired him.

The Angels have had some pretty lousy announcers and prior to this last decade a pretty lousy history but to hear guys like Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler tell you great the team was when they were 15 games out in september does tend to get ridiculous.

I would prefer at least some kind of balanced critic, when the team is doing well homer up, but when the team is doing poorly don't celebrate a player going 2-5 like he just won the MVP.

Rob Dribble (thank goodness he's not with Nationals announce team anymore, as I have to order MLB Extra Innings to watch my Braves games and most of the time it's the other team's feed that I watch), Ron Darling (he's not that bad, but he can get annoying easily), The Hawk (he's alright until he does the HR call) and the guy who goes Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees WIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN (forgot his name lol). Chip Carey is alright, but can get highly annoying quickly.

Those are just team announcers I didn't like/nor care to listen to. As far as announcers in general, it has to be Buck and McCarver (although I can tolerate McCarver a bit more). Then the old MLB Sunday Night ESPN team of Joe Morgan and Jon Miller.

Other than those, I am fine with just about any announcer. My fave currently is Vin Scully.

Ok.... fair enough... just pointing out a sig. call may be light. And to show you how unbiased I can be, I'll pick on "Sarge" (Gary Matthews) for my own Phillies. He only comes in the middle innings for CC and can't stand him. Something about his voice inflections and sometimes has a bit of a superiority stance to him. I always look forward to the 7th inning!
