    Lol..

Speaking of the Brewers, what's up with them putting on a shift for every almost every batter? How's that working out for them?

It's different. Seems like it's worked out okay, although there is the occasional hit that wouldn't have been a hit in a normal alignment. Obviously nobody in the organization will admit it because it'd be an insult to the players, but I think it's about putting defenders with terrible range into places where the ball's more likely to be hit right at them.

You can read a bunch more about it here, if you're interested in it.

Rockies game was already slow crawling, Street gives up 2 homeruns to let the Dbacks tie it. I dont want a 4-5 hour game tonight.

                          Thanks for the link Dayman.

I've always wondered why more teams don't use the shift more often. It seems like it should work out in their favor over the course of a season. I did see them get burned a few times this week, but at the very least, it evened out by the end of the series. An out is an out.. why not play in the positions where you're more likely to get them?

I was disappointed the writer didn't mention anything about BABIP. I know the traditional(if I can call it that) shift usually knocks at least 20 points of BABIP off most of the left handers it's used on. I would be interested to see what the overall effect would be for the method the Brewers are employing. I'd imagine the results are fairly similar, but I'll have to look into it now.. interesting.

Yeah, I remember the Phillies radio announcers talking about the shifts. Talked about how the guy used spray charts a lot. It definitely helped the Brewers out more often than not in that series. I only remember one ball that was hit where a guy "should have been" compared to the many balls hit into the teeth of the shift

It's a good day when I can break out a Seinfeld reference in the baseball forum.

Well if you have defenders with great range, you're using less of that range when you put them closer together.
