Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

The Mets management have to face the fact that two months of Beltran + no compensation for his leaving in FA isn't worth trading top prospects.

In that case, I'd go for an experienced pitcher with an expiring contract that can help the team in the playoff run, then next season Turner could come up, and they could use the money on something else.

Highly unlikely Turner comes up next year, unless he just slaughters batters in AAA. The Tigers are hoping for a slower approach with Turner, as opposed to what they did with Andrew Miller and Rick Porcello.

My fault, I was unsure of how far to the bigs Turner was.

Jon Heyman reports Carlos Pena will "almost surely" be moved:

He notes the D'Backs would be in play for Pena. I wonder what Chicago would want back in a potential trade.

I think he will be up next September. He hasn't had any problem in AA this year, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to have success in Toledo next year.

I hope this happens.. Could you imagine out OF defense? =)
Plus, I'd rather have him over a Beltran 2-month rental..

Some more rumors, this time from ESPN's Jayson Stark:

The Rangers and Phillies are the favorites for Heath Bell.

An executive Stark spoke to wouldn't be surprised to see a dark horse like the Reds or Brewers make a late run at Carlos Beltran.

The Rays and Blue Jays have been scouting each other's farm systems recently. One scout speculated that the Jays could join a three-team Upton trade somehow. (How would that work out? )

One team says Brian Sabean's off-limits prospects are Zack Wheeler, Heath Hembree, and Gary Brown, along with Brandon Belt.

The Phillies are steering teams to their High-A Clearwater club, as they don't want to trade big leaguers and not to add much more than a million bucks in payroll. Jonathan Singleton, Brody Colvin, Trevor May, Sebastian Valle, and Jiwan James are names to watch there assuming Jarred Cosart is untouchable. Stark says the Phillies have cooled on Beltran and Hunter Pence is a long shot, so the focus is now the back end of the bullpen. Heath Bell is the top target, with Brandon League also on the radar.

By the end of this week, Heath Bell could land in a number of different places. And he has his bags packed if he does get traded.

The latest from ESPN's Jayson Stark... The Rangers and Phillies are the favorites for Padres closer Heath Bell, with the …

Interesting, i'm assuming the Jays will get a ML quality player or someone very close to ML ready from the 3rd team in such a deal.

The Reds are still in it apparently, and are trying to work something out with the Rockies asking price.
