actually it is against the rules. The runner although having the right of way shall not be permitted through intentional action be allowed to interfere with the fielders chance at fielding a ball. He is called out and the ball is dead.
Now, since he was called out. ok. however his act was HORRIBLY intentional and was more of an act of attempted injury than it was anything else. This is what he should be fined for.
And I still don't think I would want to be him tomorrow in the batters box with a man who throws 98 mph fastballs and has already hit 20 some odd people.

Neo - Actually I think that's a misinterpretation of the rules. That's true on a batted ball. I don't think it's true on a thrown ball by a fielder. Actually I'm almost positive that's true.
I'll just add this. Fick's never been known to be a dirty player and why the heck would he want to injure Eric Karros?? Karros has been playing well in the postseason, but if you're going to take someone out, you do that to Prior or Wood when they're running to cover 1st. IMO (and this coming from a guy who doesn't like ATL or CHC) this was unintentional. However, it did look very odd.
Also Fick won't have to worry about being hit. No one in their right mind will intentionally hit a guy in the playoffs with the series on the line.

Actually, you're right it's well within the rules to do what Fick did, and if it had not been a force out, he would have been safe.
But, for anyone that thinks it was a deliberate attempt to injure Karros, well you are jumping to too big of a conclusion. He was trying to knock the ball out. Period. If he wanted to hurt him he would have ran him over or put a spike in the side of his ankle.
