    Re: Cubs vs. Braves

    Yep ... great game.

Cubs are done though. Veres is the pitcher of choice for the eighth?

The difference is 3 runs scored with 2 outs for the Braves. The Cubs blew a multitude of chances with runners in scoring position with LESS than 2 out. Braves earned this one.

Cubs are still in the driver's seat though, IMO. This was the only pitching matchup of the series I did not like, and had we executed, the Braves 5 runs still probably wouldn't have won them the game.

Kudos to the Braves. They executed when the needed to tonight. Cubs ...

And had Javy Lopez caught the ball, and had the ump called him out at home and had..

That's the game of baseball. Doesn't matter if your 162-0, something can always go wrong.

Friday's matchup will be downright amazing.

            The past/present vs. the present/future.

            Wow. Cant wait.

The Cubs had the bases loaded early in the game and could've really broken it wide open. Instead they got over-anxious and Hampton capitalized on that.

If the Cubs had broken the game open early on they might've won. Oh well it was a great game and once again we saw Dusty Baker's stupid managerial thinking by having almost everybody on his bench involved in the 8th inning.

                  Good win Braves.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I was clearly unaware that sometimes breaks can go your team's way, and sometimes they don't. I also see now that I was not simply pointing out that the Braves capitalized on their opportunities, whereas the Cubs could not. It is evident that I need to brush up on the nuances of baseball before my next post, and I promise to put this constructive criticism to good use in future discussions.

I guess all there is left to say is good job Braves. You definitely earned that victory over the Cubbies. Disappointing as that may be Wait, for some strange reason, it seems as though I may have said this before??

While I agree it was curious to see him use up that much of his bench in a single inning, you can't argue the fact that the moves did indeed produce the tying run. He basically replaced the entire bottom third or so of his order, which had been the Cubs' achilles heal all night long. Had he not done so, it is very possible the Cubs wouldn't have tied the game in the first place.

It certainly could've come back to bite them had the game gone in to extra innings, but Veres ensured that would not happen.
