Pretty unprofessional article IMO.

Re: How sad is this...
I'm pretty awful with numbers and stats (and logic, in general), but even to me it seems like the stats they chose use seemed pretty arbitrary to me.
That said, here's a pretty good rebuttal: http://musingmathematically.blogspot...s-defense.html
And I think Bautista never hit above .200 during that White Sox series before the incident occurred, so for them to yell "It's not too [f------] easy to hit home runs when you don't know what's coming!" just seems a little illogical to me.Comment

Re: How sad is this...
Looks like the White Sox are accusing them as well. To a point where an unnamed pitcher threaten Jose Bautista.

It's not as sad as every umpiring crew giving the Padres the business circa 2005-2009 because a certain person was the CEO. Frustrating times.Comment

Probably not on calls, but of course with some players and coaches getting occasional remarks about Alderson when a new umpiring crew would arrive at PETCO Park. Of course it could've been hearsay, but I understand the umps attitude towards him considering how stuck up Alderson sounded in his interviews.Comment

That would take the whole strategy of the game and flush it down the toilet besides, I always like seeing a game with a veteran catcher who makes all the calls himself.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: How sad is this...
I think teams with young(er) catchers tend to relay the signs from the dugout. After a while if a catcher is really good at calling a game he'll be given the reins after a few years.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: How sad is this...
I don't think any team in MLB calls the pitches from the dugout. They might call a pitch out or to walk a guy, but not each pitch.
If you are stealing signs within the field of play or dugout without help from anything, that is part of the game. If you are doing it other ways, you should be kicked out of the league.Comment

Re: How sad is this...
Last season when Arencibia was catching (which wasn't very often) they were definitely feeding him what to call to the pitcher. I'm not sure about this year but I wouldn't be surprised if Don Wakamatsu were sending him signs at times (though not every pitch)Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
