He's basically average at this point. He brings an "X-factor" (if you believe in that stuff), but he's a terrible leadoff hitter. Still amazing defensively, but his bat has definitely declined

Yeah not really seeing a Pujols and Reyes signing, however somehow idk why I could see a Fielder/Reyes combo if they ever get into serious talks with Fielder which i'm assuming will be eventually

I still wouldn't mind the Brewers getting Rollins to be our leadoff hitter!! He would cost us a lot, a lot less then Reyes would...

Remember for a second that we had Yuni Betancourt playing short for us last year.

A broom laid horizontally where the shortstop normally stands with a glove on the handle would be an improvement.

In a way I agree with this.

He does still bring the x-factor, still plays good defense, but I think he has more left offensively than you think.

He's been at or below league average in OPS in each of the last three years. That's about all I was able to look up from my phone

I don't see Bell leaving the west coast. Madson is possible. Broxton probably not.
I wouldn't rule out Joe Nathan.

Joe Nathan's name is being bandied about for the Jays closer job.....Me no sure about that one.

That's an insult to brooms everywhere.

I like it especially if most of the staff stays in tact.

Of all the candidates I think Matheny has the most upside to be a really good manager, I'll be anxious to see how he does.

Plus he was a hell of a catcher (Defensively). Former catchers typically make great managers so I agree with you regarding his upside. Do you guys think he will control the running game as well as La Russa did? It will be interesting to see how he uses his bullpen. Doubt he will be as masterful as La Russa, but still. I love seeing how first time managers pan out.

Not sure how I feel about the Matheny signing just yet.

Loved him as a player with the Cards. One of my all-time favorites. But I'm not completely sold on him taking over the reigns of the World Champions as his first gig.

I guess Mo was impressed with what he heard from Mike, and given the moves he pulled of at the trade deadline this year, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

At least this almost guarantees the rest of the coaching staff not changing much.
