Brandon Phillips seems like an extremely likable guy.

You can't always be too sure about a star rejoining a team or not, but I think we all could have a good feeling on this one.

He really is. IIRC one of his twitter contest winners he paid out of pocket to send him to a game in San Francisco when they were there.

The Rangers will trade you Darren Oliver and a bag of Doritos (flavor to be named later) for Mathis. Mathis isn't Napoli, but I want to see Scioscia cry like a little baby. Again.

5+ million to a guy who hit .240 last year? I can definitely think of better ideas.

You don't pay a player on what he did 2 years ago.

He was hurt with a wrist injury and was playing in Oakland. Not many players thrive in that scenario.

Look at 2005-2010 while he was in Kansas City. As consistent year to year as any player.

You pay a player what you expect him to do.

Do you think he will play like he did from 2005-2010 or how he did while he was playing with a bad wrist in 2011?

It's a pretty safe bet he returns to form. And that's how he got paid. Nothing is a sure thing in baseball, but this is pretty close.

He had a really nice recovery in August/September. .275/.355/.455 with a .810 OPS.

                    He was very good in 2005, 06, 07, 08, 08, 09, 10, and half of '11.

And in all of that, he had 3 bad months (while hurt) in 2011. You're going to weigh those 3 months over 6 years?

That's the same as saying Pujols shouldn't get a big deal right now because he slumped to start 2011.

I just think you will be very happy with DeJesus. He's a great top of the order guy. Gets on base a lot. He's made 20 errors in a 9 year career, he's great in the outfield. He's a fine player for 5 million, and he will not hit .240 if he stays healthy.

                      Fair enough.

Don't agree with the Albert Pujols comparison though, well, because he's Albert Pujols lol

I'm excited about his defense, but I hope he can return to form at the plate. Especially seeing he's going to be batting leadoff for us.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Marlins signed Jose Reyes to 6 years 106M. Where is HanRam going to play? 3B? OF?

                          Two things...

                          1) I hope this doesn't take them out of the C.J. Wilson race. I'd rather he go to the National League than to Los Angeles.

                          2) I wonder if that is all the money left for the offseason if Pujols doesn't quickly go back to St. Louis. I just don't see anywhere else that will take him for that money.

I have a feeling Hanley Ramirez will end up playing 3rd base. That's a huge get for the Marlins right there though in the back of my mind Reyes seems like a guy who'll coast after getting a big contract like that.

I know there's a thread discussing it but I really hope the big rumor that the Jays are Prince Fielder's first choice is true. That would be the kind of splash and signing of a genuine superstar that the Toronto market needs. AA doesn't sign/trade for players based on PR but this would be one of the bigger PR moves of the last 5 years for the team. Fielder would give some added punch to a lineup that's probably a legit bat or two away from being a truly scary batting order.

Apparently Hanley's already decided he will:
