I don't like that trade personally. We gave up a lot to get him. Grandal is a great young catcher and Alonso is a stud.
I think they gave up too much for just Latos. I think Alonso will be a future all star for 10ish years.

Great move by both teams. The NL Central should be fun to watch this year.

Not that Latos won't be a great pickup for them, but they did give up a lot. Looks like both teams will win this trade

I think this was a great trade short term for the Reds but I could see them regretting it down the line especially if those young prospects turn out as good as the hype indicates.

I fully expect Volquez to have a really good season pitching at Petco as well.

Latos has the stuff and talent to be an ace for most teams, but unfortunately the biggest thing preventing him from reaching that level right now is his temper on the mound. He visibly gets irritated by bad calls and sometimes loses his composure, but if a veteran teammate can keep him in check like Chris Young did in 2010 (although on the DL that year), he can be a great pitcher.

I'm really surprised that the Padres acquired both Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal. I expect Grandal to become the starter for this team sometime this year, because both Hundley and Baker won't hold the starting gig for long. Between this, signing that one IFA catcher and drafting Austin Hedges, I'm glad the team is now focusing on the catcher position, but obviously this team still has a lot of holes to fill.

If it is true that the Padres are planning to flip Rizzo to another team, I think him and Alonso are about even. However, rarely do lefties do well in this ballpark, but I think Rizzo has more power than Alonso, yet Alonso is probably the better hitter of the two. It's one or the other, since both are young and we all know Alonso won't fare well in LF.

Loving this trade as a Reds fan, Volquez now another teams problem and Grandal was expendable considering blocked behind Mesoraco

I agree. I think a pitchers park could jumpstart Volquez's career.

They could have moved him to third base/left field. He has a great bat. That being said, at Petco that could hurt him.

Absolutely fantastic trade for San Diego. They have so many holes to fill and they weren't going anywhere with Latos. I worry about Latos pitching in GAB because he is a fly ball pitcher and PETCO helped him in that regard.

So far, I'm a real fan of what SD has done this offseason...

That is what I am worried about. Petco helps flyball pitchers, look what Harang did.

no way, low defense and low/moderate power

You don't trade a guy who is going to win multiple Cy Youngs, the first probably within 2 years for prospects.
