Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
While Cordero cut down on the late inning walks in 2011, in the three years before that, he was as bad as David Weathers as a closer in terms of the “9th inning heart attack” factor.
Walt has addressed the team's issues perfectly so far this offseason.Comment

Our payroll was dwindling by the second lol
I don't know how I feel about dumping Garza. He's a good pitcher and an absolute workhorse. I'd imagine the Cubs are trying to avoid arbitration with him, but we could still have a pretty decent rotation if we keep him around.
I don't know. Maybe just personal preference. If he goes, I just hope we get something really good in return. I haven't seen the other offers, but the Tigers deal seems to be pretty favorable for us.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Nice job Uncle Walt!! $8.5 million for the best closer on the market, less than Cordero made this past year, and only 16 walks in 60.2 innings.

Also, on the random uncitable rumor front, some guy on a different site, possibly a lunatic, mentioned that the Tigers offered the Rays Porcello and Castellanos for Longoria. I'm guessing this guy was full of it because I can't find any mention of it whatsoever on the interwebs, but wouldn't the Rays laugh in Dombrowski's face for that?Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Apparently the Blue Jays are done their shopping this offseason.
I dunno, seems kinda pitiful work on AA's part if that's true (and this is coming from the horse's mouth so there's validity to the report) I can't in good conscience see a GM of a team saying that when they have the money and resources to acquire Prince Fielder who is a need for them....BAH
No one in the history of Toronto sports gets more of a free ride from the Toronto media than AA. It's like critical thinking has gone out the window when it comes to AA's moves.
I can't recall a more disappointing off-season than this one.
Basically the club has taken all the money it saved from the Wells trade and failed to re-invest it. When they dealt Wells and took back the salaries of Rivera and Napoli they couldn't wait to get rid of those two salaries. That's the only way to explain Napoli for Frank Francisco.Last edited by bhurst99; 01-12-2012, 03:11 AM.Comment

Not a chance on Fielder. They have no interest in that kind of long-term deal. Have they ever signed one of Scott Boras' clients? Might have. I just can't recall.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
I agree with the tenor of your comments but wanted to pick up on this. I guess this belongs more in the Blue Jays thread so i'll make it quick, while AA has gotten a free ride there ARE some in the media starting to turn a critical eye on AA including Bob McCown who's a huge fan of his. AA is set to go on PTS tonight so it'll be interesting if the Bobcat actually gets tough on him or just throws softballs.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
I'd be in full agreement with the AA bashing IF I believed that Rogers was giving him a blank check to spend on players. I don't. I think the Jays are on a tight budget (likely related to Rogers' purchase of MLSE), and AA can't exactly go on McCown's show and call Rogers cheapskates now, can he?Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. But even on a tight budget, I expected more this off-season. They had a lot of needs going into this off-season (another starter, another bat to protect Jose) and the only one they addressed was a closer.Comment
