Beltran's also selfish from what I have heard. Has been labeled that by his teammates. Not only that but it will cost us MUCH MUCH more to resign Beltran than it would to sign Alfonso. With the money we'll have to spend on resigning Beltran, we could use that money on another good OF. It's not hard to find a good OF, like it is to find a great 2ND basemen, like that of Sori's caliber. I have read that he had the most productive seasons for a 2B last year, and this year.
All Sori needs is some discipline, and pitch recognition, which he will get as he's maturing. We have great talent on our hands, especially for a 2B. He's already part of the 35-35, and 30-30 clubs, and has a shot in the future of 50-50. This season is rather similar to his last season, in which he had a breakout year, and that is saying a lot considering he had a poor season after starting off MARVELOUSLY! Seems like most of our players had a poor year offensively.
So lik I said, eveything will come to Sori as progresses. His defense right now is average, but will improve. He has great range and has made some great plays during the coarse of the season. He's still young, and giving up on him now is like giving up on Weaver, which many of us Yankees' fans have with the exception of me. I want to keep Weaver and Soriano, because these guys have great upsides, which a certain coach has to utilize.
Heck, if we did put him on the block, we would get helluva better offers than the one Royals offered.

I'm confused about how Beltran would cost that much more than Soriano. As you said, Soriano's production at second is better than all the others in baseball. I would assume that would warrant a pretty massive paycheck.
I don't know Beltran personally so I don't know if he has an attitude problem. I do know the guy has one of the best SB% in the game, and took almost as many walks as Ks last season-- which is a clear mark of maturity and intellegence. Watching Soriano wave at more and more sliders in the dirt makes you wonder if he ever will mature. It's not a given that he will. I mean, look at Shawon Dunston. He waved at pitches in 2002 the same way he did in 1986. I'm of the opinion that Soriano will never have a better season than he did last year. I just don't think he's a player.
It's good to hear support for Weaver coming from a Yankee fan though. You're wise to know how huge Weaver could be if he just relaxed and did what he was capable of. Unfortunately, you're in the minority in this case. The ownership and large part of the fanship will never let Weaver relax and do what he's capable of.
