Re: Beckett to start game 6

Beckett is a gamer and he's shown me a lot of heart and talent in these playoffs. He's not going to just pitch for the sake of pitching. He's gonna give it his all. I'm pretty sure he'll also be available out of the Bullpen if there's a game 7. Remember pitch counts don't matter as much when you won't be pitching again til next april.

To me it doesn't make much sense to start Beckett. Why not rest him just in case they need him for Game 7?? I mean, they could very well win it tonight w/o Beckett, but wouldn't you as a Marlins fan want your ace starting in Game 7 (Well Rested), if it goes that far?? I would. If it were me, I would keep Beckett for Game 7 and take my chances in Game 6. I just don't get this move. I'm routing for the Marlins, since they knocked my Giants out.

Exactly. As a Yankee fan, I'm happy about this. To win the World Series, the Yankees will have to beat Beckett anyway. I'd rather it be on 3 days rest than full rest.

Agree 100%. I really don't understand this move by McKeon...

Kerry Wood and Mark Prior are gamers and showed a lot of heart too.

I'm not saying Beckett can't win this game, but if he gets another days rest and can pitch Game 7 (if there is one) he'd have an even better shot.

It's almost 'church' on the Yankees. Oh how glorious.

If you don't start Beckett in game 6 then who do you throw? Willis? He's been erratic and if they lose he won't be availble in his usual middle-relief spot. Redman? Thats like handing the Yanks the game on a platter. I think McKeon made a good call here. You still have Pavano who pitched a gem in game 4 to go in game 7.
