People forget about Molitor. But anyone who plays 20 seasons and has a lifetime BA of .306 can hit. Probably one of the most underrated hitters of his era. Was huge for Toronto when they won their WS.

It felt like he was hitting a double or getting a clutch hit every at bat in the 1993 post season.

      Craig Monroe?!?!?!

Maybe when he hit the ball it looked nice, but he has a ton of miss in his swing. There's a reason why he hit in the low .200s.

IMO John Olerud had one of the best swings i've ever seen. He had a swing that was as close to Ted Williams' as you could find in the modern era of baseball. Tony Gwynn also had a helluva swing as well.

As for guys I never really saw in my lifetime but through the glory of videotape I have to say Rod Carew had a real sweet stroke.

Cano gets my vote. His compaction and thrust from his hips is unreal. I could watch him hit all day.. truly a thing of beauty

I'm not sure I can go with anyone besides Bonds or Pujols.

Have a feeling I'm forgetting a couple guys who should be mentioned, though.

They didn't call Will Clark The Natural for nothing. Or the Thrill for that matter.

What a smooth swing that guy had.

Going off of who I have seen in person...

Junior, with Edgar Martinez being a close second.

This is a homer thread, after all.

As to what Blzer said earlier, I completely agree with him. While I do love Griffey's swing mechanically Bonds is better. Barry's swing was more compact and is more mechanically sound then Griffey's was. Barry's swing is something that is good to teach, Griffey's is something that is nice to look at.

going by what was previously said about Bonds (how compact his swing was), I'm going to mention Joey Votto. I don't know many guys in the league today who keep the bat in the hitting zone for as long as Votto does, or who have a sweet and compact a swing. He gets maximum power to all fields because of the quickness of his wrists, but with minimal effort.

I know Votto is a bit of a homer call, seeing as how I'm a huge Reds fan...

also, someone I see very, VERY often (as I live in the south), is Freddie Freeman, and he has a beautiful swing. Reminds me of Bonds/Votto, in that he has such a short, compact swing, but gets the maximum results out of minimum exertion.

as far as retired guys, I'm going to agree with whoever it was earlier that said that Griffey didn't have a mechanically sound swing. He had the prettiest swing I've ever seen, but it was long & looping, which is not what you would want to teach a young hitter. (same with Manny & A-Rod).

The best I've seen (in videos) has to go to Ted Williams & Hank Aaron. Aaron had the quickest wrists I've ever seen.
