I think there's a slight difference this year though, yes it was about half full tonight but if you actually look at the crowd it's starting to trend younger and younger. This has been a trend that's slowly been building the last 2-3 years. It's probably going to take a full year of success to see consistent crowds of 25K plus but I think the dome won't be lacking in the atmosphere department. It'll be interesting to see what the crowd will be like tomorrow afternoon. Usually an early season afternoon game in the middle of the week gets about 15K but i'm hoping for something more like 20-22K.

Kyle Drabek looked pretty good tonight. He had a ton of movement on his pitches and he was overall more consistent with his delivery. His strike zone command still needs a little more work but he's a lot better than he was last year and he actually seems to be listening and taking in instructions from coaches and teamates whereas last year he'd sulk and start beating himself up emotionally. It's going to take him a while to become a complete pitcher but he's making progress which is all you can ask for.

The offense while still not totally in sync looked a lot closer to the offense this spring so that's a positive thing. You gotta love watching Brett Lawrie out there though he's been told by coaches not to go sliding at home and he still does it! In a way he reminds me of Pete Rose in that he goes all out no matter the score or situation. Hopefully that doesn't mean he'll get into injury problems. Jose Bautista is clearly struggling with his timing but I think he'll snap out of it in a week or two but if he doesn't than I think the magic may be over for him. Nice to see Edwin Encarnacion being more consistent with the bat early this season and nice to see Escobar and Lind starting to come around slowly but surely.

Tomorrow afternoon should be a dandy!

Robinson Cano starts off the top of the 12th inning with a double as the Yankees look to capitalize on this as A-Rod is up to bat.

A-Rod hits a soft chopper up the middle which moves Robinson to third with one out. Mark Teixeira now batting....

Mark hits a high chopper to second base with the infield practically playing "in." Robinson has to stay put and there are now 2 outs. Curtis Granderson is currently being intentionally walked.

Raul Ibanez now batting with runners on first and third, 2 outs. Raul answers the phone-call as he hits a ground-rule-double to left-field which allows Robinson Cano to score and moves Curtis Granderson to third.

Chris Stewart now batting with runners on second and third. Chris Stewart strikes-out to end the inning. 5-4 Yankees

Mariano Rivera will receive the call to pitch the bottom of the 12th. He should be facing: Endy Chavez, J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis.

Endy Chavez: K, 1 out. J.J. Hardy: popup to second-base, 2 outs. Nick Markakis: K, 3 outs. Ballgame over, the Yankees win. THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, YANKEES, WIN!

Saddest part about the O's/Yanks game tonight. Listening to about 5 guys yell "Yankees Suck!" everytime several thousand Yankee fans yelled "Let's Go Yankees!". Man I miss 1997.

I believe Mythbusters confirmed that sliding is better, but that is for 2nd and 3rd when you have to stop on the base. 1st is going to be the opposite. You can run through first, however, you have to slide and stop on first or be tagged. Running wins.

No it is not. He has had slumps before and got out of them in time. That performance on opening day showed no signs of any magic being gone. Players have slumps and if you are going to assume the "magic" is over after just a couple of weeks, that's crazy. If he is in a season-long slump, now you have a point.

No worries, I had it covered on Twitter.

And ND - where's Jeff Manship these days? I'm sure he'll be pitching for the big club at some point this season. I mean, half those guys shouldn't have major league jobs, so he'll get a shot.

What a game we have today in Detroit...Shields vs Verlander. I think this game is a low scoring affair with Detroit going to 5-0 with a 3-1 win. Verlander is just so good, but I do think Shields will calm down from his last start and do a good job of keeping Detroit off balance.
