That's dumb. If this was ten years ago this would be a non-issue. No one threw a hissy-fit when Randy Johnson plunked Sean Burroughs in 2002 (in a spring training game no less). Welcome to the big leagues, business as usual.

Re: 5/7 - 5/13 Game Discussion Thread
Hamels is just moronic...if you plunk the guy, so be it but don't admit it was intentional. Zimmermann retaliated (great shot, right on the kneecap which I bet still hurts) but he got no suspension as the league saw him within the "culture" of the game. Players get hit and teams retaliate...it's normal. Just don't admit to instigating it as that's just asking for punishment.
While I look forward to the Nats' progression, I also think Harper is very arrogant and easy to dislike...all of that said, I have no issue with either plunks from both Hamels and Zimmer.Last edited by SaluteYourShorts21; 05-07-2012, 06:37 PM.Comment

Re: 5/7 - 5/13 Game Discussion Thread
After thinking about it more, I don't care much that Hamels did this. Sure, a better initiation would be to strike his *** out 4 times or something, but whatever.
And I'm sure as hell glad he admitted it. Dancing around would make him look pathetic. Honesty is a good thing.
EDIT:
via Rovell:
Amount Cole Hamels is fined for drilling Bryce Harper: $409,835. Total amount NFL has fined James Harrison: $198,529.
....that is seriously a JOKE.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 05-07-2012, 06:51 PM.Comment

Re: 5/7 - 5/13 Game Discussion Thread
I don't get the hubbub with Hamels/Harper...if he wants to hit him, he did it the right way, Harper handled it the right way, and MLB did what they had to do.
As for Harper, I don't understand how folks can't like him. Lots of players (probably most) in the pros are egotistical a-holes...you have to be in order to compete at that level. On some level it's almost impossible for this kid to not turn out like he has as he's been coddled/told he's the greatest for so long. All I care about is he plays hard and cares...fun to watch."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Hanson NAILED Reed Johnson with a pitch. Almost hit his head. That would have been ugly :-/Comment
