Most underrated and overrated player

Ive been wondering what others thought about this subject.

NL underrated: Easily a tie between Lohse and Matt Holliday. Rarely do you hear about either one of them and both are having incredible years.

AL underrated: Paul Konerko or Josh Reddick. Konerko having great stats for years and still constantly overlooked. Reddick came out of nowhere and as of today has mashed 24 bombs.

NL overrated: Victorino, still a good player, but not a game changer like he once was. Media talks like he's a top player, which he just isn't anymore.

AL overrated: Napoli and AGon.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Wow I think you have something there with Zim. Looked up his stats and had no idea he had 15 bombs and a solid .280 average. Good one.

Most underrated: Nick Markakis

Most overrated: Ubaldo Jimenez

Not really seeing Markakis. He has very average numbers for a RF and low power for the position. Good player though I don't see underrated. Ubaldo is a good one though.

I really wouldn't consider Holliday an underrated player, he's having a great year, but he's won multiple silver slugger awards and is a 6X All-Star. So, saying you never really hear about him is a little off. But I do agree about Loshe, 12-2 with a 2.79 ERA is phenomenal. I would also say guys like Ryan Vogelsong and James McDonald are underrated too.

Overrated is though though, but if I had to pick off the top of my head I'd either say A-Rod or Jayson Werth. You can really just throw in any under-preforming player with a huge contract in there.

Underrated - Chase Headley. Conventional stats don't really do him justice as his slash line is .271/.369/.440 with only 15 home runs, 60 runs driven in, and 12 stolen bases. He's really come onto his own and is currently 13th in WAR among position players (Mike Trout leads the way) and is tied for second among third basemen in that same category.

Edit: To add on, his home/road splits are ridiculous. He could easily be a consistent .280/20 contributor with good defense at a more neutral home ballpark. At this point, the Padres should have given him a contract extension before extending guys like Luebke and Hundley.

I don't like using the terms 'underrated' and 'overrated', but there are certainly some players that need more attention.

Not only that but he's been one of the best defensive and overall third baseman over the last few years. Truly a great player that no one talks about, now he's being overshadowed by a rookie.

Ya you have a point there with Holiday, it just seems to me that he's constantly overlooked as one of the truly great and consistent players in the league. Though maybe underrated isn't the right term.
