Another "homer" decision is Brenden Ryan. Dude's a wizard with the glove. He struggled with the bat early in the season, but has hit .285 in his last 45 games. His average is only .205, but that's not the whole story.
Defensively Ryan is for sure underrated. Amazing D, yet no one ever talks about it. It is truly an amazing glove. He deserves recognition.

He's still underrated in the Show. Although, I haven't seen him play since he left St. Louis.

One of the most underrated players I've seen across the game is Brandon Phillips. You never hear about him unless you're a Reds fan and he stays under the radar but plays amazing. Another underrated player is Clay Buchholz. He is quietly becoming the Red Sox new ace.
As for overrated players, Carl Crawford, Ichiro, and Matt Holliday come to mind.

I hear about Brandon Phillips and his antics all the time, he's a good player but he's not underrated.

I'd love to hear how Matt Holliday's overrated.

I get Carl Crawford, kind of get Ichiro (at least now), not really getting Matt Holliday. Care to explain?

Clay Bucholz, lawls. Yay he has 10 wins this year and 17 a few years back. Guy got incredibly lucky in 2010, and has shown to be an average pitcher at best. Ace? hahahahaha

Also, as the other two posters above me have asked, I too am curious how Matt Holliday is overrated.

I'll make you believe! He has a career UZR of -134 (average being 0). So for all qualified SS (minimum PA of 1000), he is the worst fielding shortstop of all time. Although a few players would have passed him had they had a career as long as Jeter.

                Anyways...

I think Michael Bourn could fit the category of underrated, no one ever talks about him, and he is very quietly a great leadoff hitter.

I think that to an extent A-rod is a little bit overrated, he is not the player he used to be, but he is still a solid player.

Give Ichiro a break. He's been an outstanding player for many years in a mediocre market. Do people expect outstanding players to play at the highest level from year one to year last?

                          Underrated

NL- Ryan Vogelsong, Jason Kubel, Madison Bumgarner, Huston Street

AL- Billy Butler, Mike Trout - he is putting up one of the greatest season i've ever seen, and he didnt even play all year. Maybe a reach for calling him underrated, but he deserves to be talked about more.

Trout deserves to be talked about more? People are saying he's a run-away ROY, probable MVP winner, and is mentioned on every Angels highlight. What else needs to be said?

I understand that and hes not really underrated, but in my opinion he is putting up one of the greatest seasons ive seen considering his age. I honestly dont watch ESPN so I dont know how much they talk about him.. but when I do all I hear is harper this harper that..
