@Iceman. I agree it should be a 3 game series. Our Braves had to play a perfect game and we did not. Too many errors, Chipper 2R error, Uggla error and Simmons error . That is 4 runs and we still had an opportunity to win, but it was not meant to be. Cant wait to see our team next season. They should be real hungry.

The Braves squeaked into that game? You don't pay much attention to baseball, do you?Comment

Re: Play-In Game Discussion Thread
I will say that this "win" doesn't feel like a real win with all the controversy. I don't want any of you guys leave hear thinking that it's easy for a Cardinal fan to accept a win like that. It doesn't feel nearly as bad as losing like that, but it also doesn't leave me with a clear continence going forward in the playoffs. I don't want this year to be known around baseball as, "the year the Cardinals wouldn't have even gotten as far as they did if the umpires didn't screw it up."
Moving on in the night...
Let's go O's!
We did plenty to lose, yes we got screwed by a call that put a damper on a rally, but we also committed 3 errors that led to 3(?) runs.
The real issue is that that game decided who moved on, instead of meaning the Cards would host at least one playoff game. It shouldn't have been decided in one game, and it just makes it worse that the Braves did not play like their usual selves and a call was absolutely blown in the 1 game.
This isn't like the Inaccurate Reception, the Cards actually did what they needed to do to win, only the Braves comeback was put in doubt (keyword being doubt, it was by no means guaranteed) by a bad call.NCAA: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Kennesaw State Owls (Alma Mater)
NFL: Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons
MLB: Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
RIP Atlanta Thrashers

Technically, according to the rule book, the correct call was made. Kozma didn't have to sprint or dive to the ball and appeared to be under it before inexplicably running away from it. My issue with it is the fact that the call was made so late.
Despite that call, I really don't think the Braves can blame this game on anyone but themselves. 3 errors that directly resulted in 4 unearned runs. That's their own fault.
For the record, I'm a cardinals fan and if the roles were reversed I wouldn't be happy with the call, but I would've been more upset with my team for making those kinds of mental mistakes in such an important game.
Edit: I too hate this wild card format, even though it happened to benefit my team so far.

Re: Play-In Game Discussion Thread
Hey! 25 cent Big Macs every game the Cardinals play in this playoffs.
Another reason why MLB chose a one game playoff was because the fans wanted it that way. They wanted it to be quick like football in order to create excitement and not let the season run too far over.
By fans, I mean the people who continually discredit baseball because it's not quick and TV friendly like football.
And another topic...
I love how this press conference is going. It has Torre, the head of the umpires, Jeff Kellog, and the other ump who made the call. It's like a small court session with the media asking all the questions.Last edited by sydrogerdavid; 10-05-2012, 08:36 PM.Comment

The Braves finished 2nd in a 5 team division. Purists would argue they shouldn't be in the post season at all, and that they should feel fortunate to have the one game playoff.Comment

Terrible way for the Braves season to end. I don't think anyone should be upset about the second wild card. It adds more to the game especially with all those games. Hats off to Chipper! Hell of a player and person. Had 'em on my squad back in the Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. days on N64.Originally posted by OriolesfanRD Favorite Teams- Baltimore Ravens

And it'll happen again next year when we win 96 games and lose out on the division due to a resurgent Phillies team dominating the NL East. Just watch.Comment

The bright side is that the Braves will be World Champs in 5 years because the pattern will continue and eventually lead to winning.Comment
