While it's true that Pettite is going through a small decline he's still a VERY good pitcher and he brings intangibles to the table. The man knows how to win in postseason. He's a warrior and won't quit on the team. He's actually one of those pitchers i'd love to have on my side in a Game 7 situation.

Sportsman, I was referring to Thompson as someone we need someone better than. I wouldve loved Petitte. I agree with everything you said about Petitte. He's so clutch, there are only a couple of other pitchers I'd rather hand the ball to in October.

smoltz and pettite on the same team would be very nice, however, houston is close to signing andy now.

I think that would be pretty cool.....but if I was a GM, I would try Chipper back at 3rd if he is comfortable w/ it and look for a good left fielder. I think it's easier to find a good outfielder than a good 3rd baseman. Also, heard last night at the batting cage that Steinbrenner and Sheffield signed too early and that Sheff is in Atl for another year....any truth to that?

the braves didnt offer sheff arbitration so he cant talk to the braves (i.e sign a contract) until May 1st. someone will obviously sign him before then.

Nope. Because they did not offer him arbitration, the earliest the Braves could re-sign Sheffield is May 1st. He'll sign somewhere else (probably the Yankees) before then.

Also, Sheffield never actually signed a contract with the Yankees, it was a verbal agreement.
