Yeah, the Tigers have to overpay for any free agents they want since this is most likely not their first choice to go to. So offering extra cash is the only leverage the Tigers can have in comparison to other teams with more attractive factors (better talent, warmer climate, lifestyle, etc.)

They are repoertedly offering 10mil. a season for Tejada, i'm not sure that thats's over paying him considering what he will likely sign for, i believe that either the Orioles or Mariners will end up with him, the Tigers can still go after Rich Aurilia and get some kind of production,
for the sake of the Tigers' fans i hope they don't just stand pat and not do anything.

I wouldn't count Aurilla to Detroit is Seattle gets Tejada. Baltimore radio has been saying that if they lose out on Tejada, Aurilla is next on the list at SS.

Free Agents can be over rated at times. Sure it would be nice to have Tejada in there giving opposing pitchers something other than Young to think about. But look at what Seattle has done without Griffey, Johnson, and A-Rod. Sometimes all it takes is good players playing together to make a great team, Florida. And who was Tejada before he was Tejada. Who was Al Kaline before he was Al Kaline. They were no names that got a shot and made there mark. Who knows, maybe there is some one in Toledo waiting to get their shot.

Free Agents can be over rated at times. Sure it would be nice to have Tejada in there giving opposing pitchers something other than Young to think about.
