Ponson will be overpaid, but that is just the status quo in baseball. Pitchers have been overpaid for a long time.

What other way can you explain someone like Darren Oliver getting the kind of interest he is? The guy went 13-11 for Colorado last year, and now there are at least 3 teams who want him pretty badly. Granted, he only made $350,000 last year, but that was only after he put up terrible numbers for years before that. He was grossly overpaid before last year. Now, he is wanting somewhere in the $3 million range.

That isn't Ponson money, but it is pretty outrageous for someone who has pitched as consistently crappy as Oliver has in his career. He is a lefty, though, and we all know the premium placed on a lefty who can allegedly get guys out.

Suffice it to say, I'm a happy camper. After being fed up with baseball by seasons end, I cancelled the extra innings package. If the O's keep spending (and all signs point to that they will) I'll order the earlybird special!

i've heard that Ponson is going to the White Sox for 3 years 18mil. can't validate that though.

I actually think that losing Hentgen was a big blow to our rotation. from what i've read, Hentgen was looked up to by our young pitchers and was a positive influence in the club house.

I would rather see the Orioles over pay him because they want him, than see the Yankees over pay him just because they can.

They got stuck in some terrible contracts with Albert Belle and Scott Erickson that they have finally rid themselves of. Baltimore is an extremely attractive place to play. They play in a hitter's park with a tremendous fanbase. Now with rumors circulating today that Vlad and Pudge are on their way. Baltimore is making some noise in the East. Now they need to sure up their rotation with a quality starter, Ponson perhaps.

With Tejada, Pudge, and Vlad plus the mix of young, talented players they had last year, this team has one of the best offensive teams in baseball.
