I don't think Baltimore has to overpay for anyone. This team had the best record in baseball in 97. They got stuck in some terrible contracts with Albert Belle and Scott Erickson that they have finally rid themselves of. Baltimore is an extremely attractive place to play. They play in a hitter's park with a tremendous fanbase. Now with rumors circulating today that Vlad and Pudge are on their way. Baltimore is making some noise in the East. Now they need to sure up their rotation with a quality starter, Ponson perhaps.

With Tejada, Pudge, and Vlad plus the mix of young, talented players they had last year, this team has one of the best offensive teams in baseball.

of course they have to overpay, they are a dumpster team. 97?? Did you just say that? wow, but anyways until they get some pitching you can hit all you want. Ask Texas how that works

I do feel that you are basically right. It seems like Baltimore was in the bidding war the whole time. And they wanted to sign Tejada. And they were going to pay him no matter how high. I do feel that he should be making about 2-4 million less though. But the team had to outbid the other teams in the bidding for him. I am just hoping they don't sign Javy Lopez to a huge contract. Lopez is too unproven to be given a huge contract. I would go for the more proven Pudge instead. Who might cost more, but he's been more consistent with hitting and defense than Lopez has been in the last few years. Overall a good signing by the O's.

Tejada is without question a GREAT signing by the O's.....yes, they overpaid (in terms of years, not necessarily annual dollars) but they wanted to lock him up...it worked, so i dont fault them for that....too many teams sit idly by (see my Mets) when a player that fits perfectly in their mold is available, but they just wait and hope his price will drop, and by that time somebody else grabs the player (yes, in this case, im talking about Vlad)

O's supposedly close to signing Javy Lopez.

I hope this is an early April Fools Joke or something. Their supposedly going to sign him to a 3 YEAR $21 MILLION CONTRACT! That's outrageous for spending that much on him. I bet he doesn't hit more then 15 HR's and no more then 65 RBI's if the O's sign him. He has one great year and that makes him worth this much money?
