Why the fanboism for ASB ?
ESPN/WSB is obviously better.

WSB wasn't nearly as detailed, realistic-looking, or deep. ASB had all of the features the other series had... plus a ton more. The physics, details, variety of game modes, unlockables, create-a-franchise, and player-specific animations were the most impressive I've ever seen in a sports game of any kind. It actually had all the hitting interfaces from all the other baseball games (including High Heat's zone system), but very few people took the time to change it from the default. It had a few nagging problems (a steep learning curve being the biggest), but mostly it just suffered from misinformation and misunderstanding.
That said, WSB was probably better for a pick-up-and-play one-shot game. There was virtually no learning curve, and WSB offered very few of the long-term, rewarding details (like the way ASB had the ivy slowly grow in at Wrigley over the course of the season). So after an hour or two of playing WSB, you saw almost everything it had to offer. It was also better for casual baseball fans who don't really care about authenticity or long-term depth.
