Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
Cubs introduced their first mascot in team history. His name is Clark. He won't be jumping on dugouts. He's there simply to welcome fans as they enter Wrigley. Considering his design, twitter account and intent, he's for the kids.
So naturally, grown men are complaining.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Found this yesterday, and I thought it was really interesting.
A late-60s concept of a rolling roof over Truman Sports Complex that could cover either Arrowhead or Kaufman, maybe even both if it separated in the middle.

Interesting and very ambitious though I somehow get the feeling it'd be fraught with problems much like the retractable roof over Olympic Stadium.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

And one that BurghFan can truly appreciate, Forbes Field and the Cathedral of Learning.
On a completely unrelated note, I'm sure this has come up before but what are some good sites that give simple, easy to understand descriptions of some of the more advanced stats?Last edited by TripleCrown9; 01-13-2014, 09:38 PM.Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
This is only the beginning with this whole Bosch Scenario. I think names are going to get out that we would've never expected in the past. No one would surprise me anymore, legacies will be ruined and the entire baseball world as we know it will completely change.
Honestly I might get killed for this but I wouldn't be surprised if names like Pujols, and Griffey started to come out. At this point nothing would come as a shock to me.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
I've heard Griffey was pretty lazy when it came to conditioning and such. (This comes from Lou Piniella (sp?)) So it wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possibility that Junior may have at least dabbled in it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Obviously, I wouldn't rule it out... but I wouldn't care either way. He was a joy to watch play, roids or not.

Eh, normally when people do 'roids without being on top of conditioning... they just get bulkyfat. I had plenty of friends in high school take them without working out like they should have and they all just ended up fat. It was funny.

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
Yeah, that's actually been known for awhile here in KC. Several years ago when the renovations to Kauffman and Arrowhead were being proposed, that idea was brought up again. We were actually promised a Super Bowl and Final Fours if the roof was installed but it added too much to the overall cost and was shot down. But they were built perfectly in line with each other so that could be installed at a later date, so it's still possible.Kansas City Royals | FC Barcelona | New Orleans Pelicans

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
The FanGraphs glossary. Read through all of it. Every damn one. I spent an hour or two on there and it changed the way I watch baseball. It's well written, easy to understand, and plain great.
If you want the key stuff, get a good understanding of WAR, BABIP, DIPS, wOBA, wRC+, Park Factors, and maybe a few other things. If you have /any/ questions, PM me.
