Saw Verlander had surgery today…out 6 weeks. I don't think that will impact his season, but you never like it when guys are coming back from an injury.

Maybe someone knows a legit reason because I honestly don't.

Why do these guys wait so long to have surgery after the season?

My only assumption is they go on vacation, aren't willing/ready to work out and put it off till it's time to get ready for baseball.

That makes sense to me. But if it's not that, I really don't get it.

I never got that whole thing either. Before you know it's June and it's spring training. It wasn't like he was rehabbing it for a couple of months then they decided it wasn't going to work so they had to operate.

From what I read it was a recent injury sustained during offseason training.

DETROIT- Justin Verlander underwent successful core muscle repair surgery this morning. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia. Verlander sustained an injury at the end of December while performing his offseason conditioning program. He will undergo physical rehabilitation for the next six weeks and will be reevaluated at the end of that time.

“We fully anticipate Justin to participate in spring training and be in a position to compete at the beginning of the 2014 season,” said Tigers President, CEO and General Manager, David Dombrowski.
I agree it's strange that some guys wait so long to have surgery though. I'd guess sometimes they need to wait for swelling to reduce before they can cut em open.

Rangers LHP Derek Holland had surgery to repair a torn ligiment in his left leg. The official report is that he had a freak fall at his home, but 1310 The Ticket is reporting that he tore it during a Monday night beer league hockey game. He also had an assist in that game for what it's worth.

Sheesh, well this is exactly why teams put clauses in contracts that forbid their players to do recreational sports during the offseason.

I knew when I read that he fell down the stairs at home that it was a load of bull****.

I don't fault these guys for actually having lives outside of their sport though. If he wants to play rec hockey, he should play rec hockey.

MLB players are the WORST liars about this stuff. Remember Kent's "I broke my wrist washing my truck" story? Really?

Sammy Sosa threw out his back sneezing, IIRC.

Sneezing is dangerous, my shoulder can actually dislocate if I don't hold my arm in the right position during a violent sneeze. True story.

Useless Fact: Your heart actually stops every time you sneeze.

                          I've done that, too.

I've also thrown out my back trying to fit a hat on my head that was too tight.

This is the same guy that during the big ice storm last month threw a bunch of planks together and built an ice sheet to play on. I'm surprised he didn't kill himself then.
