    A little extreme no?

What is the mascot? Some bobbleheaded Harry Caray in a Cubs jersey?

I can see it now Mr. Caray gets into a mascot brawl with Mr. Met!

I don't get the uproar over the Chubbies doing something for the kids in adding a "cute" type mascot.

Heaven forbid they try to engage younger fans by making a trip to the stadium a teensy bit more fun for the children.

It's the first step in at least making Wrigley more of a family atmosphere than a place for tourists and drunken louts.

Yet grown men are complaining about it.

Not that it should surprise me in any fashion.

That absolutely isn't true. Clutch EXISTS. Clutch situations exist. It's just that it's mostly noise. There's no correlation year to year. It isn't a skill. Good players like Miggy and Ortiz will be good in the big moments because they're good players, not because they have some mystical abilities.

Of course than some old cranky pants (someone close to my point of view) would say "hey look at Gene Tenace in the '72 World Series!" or "Mark Lemke was a clutch player when the spotlight was on him."

                etc etc

It's a rather circuitous argument at times. I think I agree with you that there are clutch plays but not clutch players HOWEVER I do think some guys can have a short timespan when everything they do is HUGE and in the right moment.

Absolutely. That does happen. Raul Ibanez. But that's just random distribution, probably. It's not cause they're a certain kind of player with certain clutch skills and traits or whatever. However, that's exactly how the media perceives it.

well...I wrote a rather lengthy explanation of my angst re: the mascot...

but it got lost due to timing out...

In short...it sucks being a Cubs fan.

The mascot thing feeds into the narrative that the Cubs and all their acoutrments are merely an "attraction"...and that narrative grows stronger by the day/season.

Sorry for being a "grown man" arguing about a Mascot...next thing you know, grown men will argue about wrestling, eh Uber?

The drunken fools are mostly in the bleachers. It's typically a 20-40 something crowd. Not really recommended for kids under 15.

People losing their minds over the mascot, need to chill. It's geared towards the kids.

It's all good, man. They're going to turn this thing around soon. Later this decade is going to be a ton of fun.

Sports are an "attraction". It's grown men playing a kids game. MLB wants to have a little something for everyone.

It's really not that serious. Or I guess we should knock Minor League Baseball, the NBA, every MLB team with a mascot and college football while we're at it.

Maybe it comes from having to stare at this all the time (and loving him).

                            Spoiler

I get people making fun of it. That's the internet, it's what is supposed to happen.

What I don't understand is the angst. Do you really think the Cubs are like "HEY GUYS WE GOT A NEW MASCOT. WE CAN ABANDON ALL HOPE FOR ANOTHER 100 YEARS WE GOT THE KIDDIES HOOKED."

                            Wait. I see your point

For nearly 10 seconds Tuesday night, CSN Mid-Atlantic mistakenly aired an X-rated cartoon version of the Chicago Cubs new mascot, Clark the bear. The Cubs announced the creation of Clark the day before and have gotten, seemingly, a mixed reaction. … Continue reading →
