Re: Pujols Greedy? Could it really be!?

This is an Angel fan talking.

He should be getting paid more than Vlad. He puts up the same numbers minus the SBs as Vlad, but he can also play 3 positions if needed. He is also 6 years younger than Vlad. I am using Vlad as comparison because he signed his contract in the "new FA era". He was signed this year and I am using this current market as an example. If you think of it this way then I feel Pujols should get a dollar more than Vlad.

Also, don't tell me the Cards should get a discount because they are a mid market team. They just signed Rolen to a big deal last year and knew Pujols was making far less than what he deserves. The Cards should of thought about resigning Rolen to such a big deal. I understand they needed to lock a guy like that up, but he did take over Pujols' position and Pujols could be thinking "hey, they give Rolen a big deal and give him my position?" The Cards needed to KNOW what their payroll is going to be at and thought "do we want Rolen or Pujols?" (this is only if they can't pay Pujols his market value).

Think about this one. The Cards are playing a marketing game right now so if Pujols wants more money and they lose him then their fans won't be so angry. They have known for at least a year that Pujols is worth a hell of a lot more than the 1 million he made and a player who won the MVP and put up the numbers he has the past 3 years wouldn't want to be paid like an MVP?

You have very good points and I agree about the signing of Rolen. I think as long as Pujols steers clear of Boras he might make out ok.

i think the reason they spent so much on rolen was because the cubs and reds were the next two options. the rolen and tino signing really hurts them. after this year.. morris and martinez salaries are finally up.. and they shouldnt have too much problem signing him.. at least i dont think so.

I don't think he is greedy... who are we to decide if any baseball player is greedy.

I luv Pujols.. and wish we could sign him.. however, I think in order for us to be competitive in the future.. I'm not so sure it's smart put so much money on one player.

it will be very interesting to see what happens... hopefully.. we can sign him and still be competitive in the future... but that might not be realistic.

if we do trade him though..... trade him for some young fire ballers! at least 2 mark priors! Lol

Whats all this talk about 10.5 million a year? They offered him 72 mil over 6 years which is 12 million a year. I think that should be good enough for him. He is primarily an outfielder/first basemen and finding offense at that position isn't as rare as third base or shortstop. I can see him getting as much as 14 a year with incentives but I wouldn't go higher than that. If he starts asking for 15, or 17, then I'd tell him thanks for the memories and good luck with your career elsewhere.

The 10.5 is what he and his agent submitted to the arbitrator. The Cards submitted a bid of 7 mil.
