I hate to just jump in but i'm curious as i'm a baseball fan first and foremost and this is baffling. So you'd take the LaRussa era over that of Whitey Herzog?

Personally I think LaRussa has done a great job with the tools he's been given but at the same time maybe there needs to be a shakeup and life's not fair in that way but while he shouldn't be let go, it's probably the best thing to do for the betterment of the franchise.

No, that's not what I'm saying. It's just that there are a ton of people in St. Louis that will never accept LaRussa as the manager. "He's from California!!!! He turned the Cardinals onto the Oakland A's!!!!"

But, Herzog bailed when the going got tough.

Sure, I love the guy for the Championship and the two other League Champoinships he brought to St. Louis. Granted, it was in another era (one where everyone was a little more equal). He beat the Brewers in '82 and then lost to the Royals in '85 and the Twins in '87.

But all in all, LaRussa gets an unfair shake because he lives in California and has yet to win the "big" game with the Cardinals, even though his teams regularly go to the playoffs and one of his Oakland A's (Mark McGwire) set the town on it's ear. They renamed I-70 after McGwire for cripes sake!!!

But, no I wouldn't trade Herzogs years for LaRussa's. However, I wouldn't trade LaRussa's for much of anything else.

I mean really, how many teams have a Hall of Fame manager on it's bench?

I totally agree with you but, I think that jeter is getting the short end of the stick here. He is very good and does more than just a .300 average and 20 homers and about 75 runs batted in he scores over 100 runs steals pumps up the fans and the players and is a great guy in the club house.

Reports from, you guessed it, an "inside source" say that Pujols has agreed to a 7 year deal. No $ fugure yet. I just pulled this off a Cardinals message board. Possibly just as reliable as everyone claiming Maddux was to be signed by the Yankees, but possibly it is for real.

hey Albert Pujols is at least worth about $15 million, that 6 year $72 million contract was given to miguel tejada, and if you think that miguel tejada, and pujols are about the same skillwise you must be on drugs or something. Besides i think the yanks should sign him this offseason, move him to third base, move a-rod back to shortstop, and move Jeter to second.

Sign who? Pujols? He won't be eligible for free agency for three more years. If this deal is for real, add four more years onto that.
