I wonder this for everything. I've literally never bought a product because I saw it on a commercial, except for a movie ticket.

I guess it's name recognition though, like I may buy Gillette razors or something because I've seen the name before. I tend to go off reviews regardless.

That being said, I'll definitely never go T-Mobile heh.

Name recognition definitely is the reason.

I'm not gonna be like "hey, I saw this company advertise shampoo on TV, I'll get it!". But when I'm looking for a new shampoo, if its between something like "OS brand shampoo" or the brand I saw on TV, I'll at least be familiar enough with it that I'd think about trying the product.

And companies never want people calling a building anything other than what they named it.

Rogers Centre easily could've been Rogers Skydome, but they knew people would still call it Skydome so they didn't do it (spoiler, people still do).

But like you said, seeing some name like PPG Paints Arena, or Globe Life Field, won't do anything for me if I ever hear those company names elsewhere.

I do wonder how much money companies make off of putting their name on a sports arena. Might not improve sales, but could it make their stock more valuable? Surely that's why, because I can never imagine a company making millions of dollars extra a year off of sales because they bought the naming rights to a building for 10 years.

I don't get why they don't just charge a premium for a single ad?

Would you rather have 10 ads at 100k each, or 1 ad at 1 million?

I know in Europe they go overboard on all that, soccer jerseys are just the sponsor name with a small team patch, and calling euro hockey players a skating billboard would be an understatement.

A helmet ad, and a patch in the shoulder (like how NHL jerseys have teams alternate logo on each shoulder), and one above the nameplate are the most I'm willing to go.

If you start messing with the entire uni, you're killing your merch sales.

Regarding shifts and NFL formations, I've always wondered why football teams must have X amount of players on the line, and if a guy goes in motion you have to move forward or back. Why does this matter? Like "the TE was covered up", what's the advantage? Who cares if a lineman is "covered"

and shifts, ugh, I'll never understand the argument against it. guy always hits here, so we'll place our defenders there, well that's not fair!

Shifts lead to a more boring brand of baseball for the fans. Fans like home runs, but fans don't like the home run or strikeout brand of baseball we have now.

Baseball exists purely for the entertainment of the fans. If limiting shifts allows hitters to start going for base hits more often again and it leads to more rallies and a smoother experience as a fan, then it is the right move to make.

Or they can promote that there's hundreds of things that are great about baseball in addition to home runs.

The best argument I've heard against the shift is the agents perspective. A guy who mashes 40 HR and 110 RBI gets paid heavily. A guy who bunt singles to beat the shift 200 times doesn't get paid.

So the county isn't getting involved in anything until Oakland and the Athletics have something more tangible agreed to, not even the term sheet the city put together itself and passed recently. This delays a vote that was expected in September, delaying things further.

More doubt cast on this ever getting done there. Probably still more likely to come together than them relocating to Vegas, unless something happens to change the landscape a bit. Wherever they end up the clock is ticking, the intention is to start playing in their new home in three years when the Coliseum lease expires.

Personally I think if they can string things out a bit more and keep the negotiations and relationship productive Oakland/Alameda will probably have funds from one of the infrastructure bills to spend on stuff like this and help get them over the finish line.

The Oakland A’s quest to build a waterfront ballpark and village at Howard Terminal hit another snag this week after Alameda County said it’s not ready to deliver a vote next month that…

Here's some more color on potential relocation efforts. For example Legends is doing some of the market research for them.

The more they delay, the more likely they'll move.

No way MLB goes into one of their bigger CBA negotiations this offseason and don't seriously discuss 2 of their franchises with major ballpark issues. If no deal is reached before the meetings in the winter, that might be it for Oakland As baseball.

I’m hoping they clean house in the front office anyway, if it takes the GM getting a DUI then so be it

We have a brightened red a little bit or so it seems. Don't like that either.

Marcelo Ozuna has negotiated a deal where he will undergo a domestic violence intervention program and anger management. If he completes all requirements then all criminal charges will be dropped.

MLB can still implement their own punishments though.
