For anyone that can't access it/TLDR: Astros brought a 6 year old kid for one of those half-inning fan games and he was supposed to "steal" a pre-designated 2nd base in the outfield but instead he tried to steal the real base

    But everything turn out alright:

Freeman fires his agent, basically admitting he screwed up. I can't believe he let his agent do this to him. I don't see how players will just sit by and let someone else handle negotiations and not be involved at all. Specially if you don't want to leave.

The agent got paid more though as the as the contract was for more total $s than the Braves offered but he loses out on taxes, cost of living, etc.

Another wrinkle in this whole Freddie Freeman/agent saga.

Atlanta made an improved offer that his agent didn't inform him of. Freddie was informed of this in Atlanta, which is what led to him firing his agent.

        Wow.

I like Freddie but he needs to put his big boy pants on and own up to at least some partial personal responsibility in leaving ATL
I mean, I know he can't fire himself but I'd like to have seen him just change agents in the winter, and done it quietly

After watching Freddie destroy the Mets for years I just want to give a huge thank you to his former agent. Too bad Chipper Jones wasn’t his client too

One of the things about agents that guys need to think about. Agents jobs are to look after you, but that doesn't mean they won't look after themselves more.

I wonder how many times in sports it's ever happened where an agent has blatantly misled a guy because he wanted that guy to go to a certain team (or just accept a certain offer).

I wouldn't even be surprised if some shady business has happened too where agents have been paid off if they get their client to go to a certain team.

If its simply Freemans agents wanting LA because he gets more money from commission, then Freeman has no case. But if Freeman can ever prove that the Dodgers or someone bribed his agent, I wonder if he'd have a legal case to get his deal voided.

What an awkward situation though. This comes off as basically telling your team that they weren't your first choice and if you could, you'd go back on the decision. Not that he doesn't want to be in LA, but he would have chosen Atlanta over them. This is NBA soap opera level of drama.

This is still on Freddie though.

I hate it for him but the agent is acting on your behalf. You have to be clear what your expectations are.

Seems AA is not one to haggle much. I like that, make a decision and move on.

I'm sure if he could join the Braves today he would do it. He was fighting tears after realizing he left for nothing. I wouldn't have cheered for him and probably would have booed him for leaving. Long-term I think the Braves may be better off but I would still like him to have stayed.

He should sue his agent for not reporting the contract offer from the Baves but I'm not sure what his contract with them says about that.

It is on him for the failure. I would have hoped he would have called the Braves to see what was going on but I'm sure he listened to the agent to cut off contact. If I was the Braves, I would have called him before making the trade to make sure it was final. Seems like a failure to communicate clear guidelines to the agent or the agent just ignored them and got the biggest paycheck possible.

This seems like something Scott Boras does annually.

.. I find it VERY hard to believe Freeman didn't have a direct line to someone in the Braves office though.

The Braves and him have both admitted they did not talk after a certain point. I fully believe the agent told him not to call and told the Braves all communications had to go through the agent. This keeps stupid players from hurting the negotiation position. Teams have to play by the rules the agent sets or they risk pissing off the agent and losing out on players.

Freeman truly didn't want to leave and I think he wasn't given all the information. He was really upset and it hurt him that the Braves didn't offer him anything close. Then he finally finds out the truth and you could see it hurt him to find this stuff out.

This could wear on him, his personal life, etc. I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't try to force a trade or just retire. It just depends on how happy he is in LA.
