    Re: MLB Off-Topic

So IF/WHEN the team moves, what are the best options?

Because let's say they move in 2026 or 2027 for the latest, nobody can build a ballpark that fast. Even Vegas has a bit of a delay.

If they go the minor league route for (another) season, would Buffalo have a shot since they can hold more fans than the Rays draw, and their ballpark has been upgraded to MLB standards because of the Jays? Then they move to their actual city after that.

Just seems so pointless renovating Tropicana for what could be a year or at most a few years.

I read that Nashville isn't able to support a team because the city has already committed to the Titans stadium so there's no money from the city for a baseball stadium.

Sahlen Field is 40 years old and has fewer than 20,000 seats. Buffalo would be the smallest market with 3 pro teams (they're currently the 2nd smallest with 2 pro teams behind New Orleans). If the Rays move, it's gonna be somewhere that's willing to pony up 1B+ for a new stadium.

MLB doesn't want the Rays to move because that'd cut into their (already small) pool of potential expansion markets. They'd sooner the owner sell the team to someone who's willing to spend more of his own money.

The left coast needs more teams so if the Rays don't stay in the Tampa Bay area, I want to see them move to Oakland. But I really hope things work out for the best in Tampa Bay.

Owners need to learn from Field of Dreams. Build it and they will come.

I didn't mean permanently, I meant for a temp season should they need a home before moving, similar to how the A's went to Sacramento.

You want a multi billionaire to pay for a stadium out of their own pockets? What are they made of, money?!

These aren't the owners we need but sadly, as a society, they are the owners we deserve.

Would be nice to actually see this happen, but it feels like the time has passed, especially with the non baseball reasons which could impact things financially.

Although they have a stadium you could temporarily host an MLB team until their new stadium is ready, and every AL East team would probably prefer that travel instead of flying to Tampa (would be between 60-90 min flight compared to nearly 3 hours to TB).
