That could start becoming an issue all over.

Hockey has a guy like McDavid right now who is arguably the biggest name in the league since Gretzky and I'm sure people who don't know hockey haven't even heard of him (he's a bigger star in hockey than Trout is in baseball for those who dont know who he is)

Baseball like you said, how many non baseball fans know Trout? Even notable guys on other teams, how many guys do people know?

Basketball is easily the best league at marketing stars, but how many guys in this current generation of young players (guys under 30) have the name value of a LeBron, KD, Curry and so on?

Does MLB not market its stars well, or is baseball as a sport and as a culture just not as relevant in communities that create the pop culture engagement that can create hype and conversation? MLB has been trying forever to market themselves as being cool and with the times, but the product is the product, and the off the field star power/drama can't compare to other sports.

I don't think the NBA or Adam Silver have done anything magical or amazing to land themselves where they are. Jordan and LeBron didn't become icons because the NBA did X, Y or Z. Culture has just dictated that that the sport is considered relevant to young people in particular. Music and entertainment trends shifted. You can't just throw people on the cover of a video game and fake that.

I will say, tho, focusing on analytics in the presentation of baseball has done the sport no favors. No one cares about that ****.

Right, people use the "do not market its star well" as a crutch all the time. That's why the other day I rolled my eyes when I saw talk about Tatum not being a superstar because he isn't "marketed well". Nah, Tatum just doesn't have the "it" factor, that's all.

The Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles jointly announce the final resolution of all issues related to the MASN dispute. For the 2025 season, Washington Nationals games will continue to be televised locally exclusively by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) under a new, one-year contract. After this term, the Nationals will

I don't care the reason nor who broke up with who so long as MLB and ESPN part ways.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

This impacted so much. Nationals barely got any TV money from their old deal so we barely had money for Free agents. Part of the reason why we let Harper, Soto, Rendon (lol) walk. The Orioles owed us a lot of money. Now we control our own destiny.

                  Congrats Tigers!

It’s time to crown a new king. After a three-year run for the Orioles atop our preseason farm system rankings, they’ve stepped off the throne, making way for the Tigers. The O’s had slipped from the top spot in our 2024 midseason rankings as they’d graduated a number of prospects

Its near impossible for any given years whatever sports genre video game to stand the test of time, but if this had been the last baseball video game mankind ever produced, I would have been more than alright playing it for fifty years. If there is a video game developers hall of fame, you guys are first-ballot HoF'ers for this masterpiece, in my book.
