FACTS: he lost 21 games that year. Rebounded to become an average or below average pitcher, eventually doing some relief work. Was left off the WS roster. Apparently he's a coach now for the Mud Hens.
Might be thinking of Bonderman for the WS team, he lost 19 games in '03 as a 20 year old and then won 14 in '06

Maroth was the 5th starter on the 06' WS team I believe. I think the rotation that year was: Bonderman, Rogers, Verlander, Robertson, Maroth?

EDIT: Maroth got hurt in June of 06', Zach Miner took his spot for the remainder of the way.

Yeah...I remember earlier this year ESPN had a E:60 or something about it; Hope Solo and others complained about the harm.

I finished reading a few articles where scientific research has deemed it mostly safe, at least for newer turfs where the presence of lead and other chemicals isn't as strong. Bottom line for me, at least from a baseball standpoint - the players are on carpeted concrete.

Best base-runners in the league per FanGraphs: Billy Hamilton...and Kris Bryant...

            http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.asp...rs=0&sort=18,d

Bryant's specialty was supposed to be his power, yet he's derived as much value from his defense and base-running as his bat.

            Baseball is weird.

And he's not even really hitting for much power (or much at all lately). He is a fantastic baserunner, though, and is much faster than people give him credit for.

Baseball is funny part 2: Hamilton is more than twice as valuable as the second place Bryant by baserunning, lol.

Imagine if Billy Hamilton actually learned how to get on base more than 27% of the time.

That's the crazy thing...kid cannot hit at all.

Makes me wonder if Jeff Demps should've went to baseball instead of football; I bet Deion probably could still play.

If Billy Hamilton could get on base more often he'd be right up there among the greatest leadoff men in history with his speed.

Elite defensively as well. He's atrocious at the plate but I expect him to improve once he stops being a switch hitter.

lol, remember that year when Fausto Carmona had better numbers/got more Cy Young votes than Halladay,Santana and Verlander.

I was looking for something and stumbled across this column by Peter Gammons from the ASB in 2000 (seems like yesterday). This is just another example of why all the prospect talk is...well, prospect talk. Read this and see how many guys he talks about from the futures game that never reached their potential:

Anyway, this was cool to read for me...
