I really hope Dave takes a hard look at Mike Hazen. I've liked him for years, and do not want to see him in another club, unless he stays as Assistant GM here. Then I would want to see him lead a club.

I am listening to the conference right now and will have a write up when it's all over. But I don't know anything about Hazen so I can't say whether I like him or not.

        Re: MLB Off-Topic

DD is getting a 3MM raise from what he was making in Detroit and according to Nightengale. Blue Jays involvement made the Red Sox give Dombrowski full decision making power according to Passan.

I put my thoughts on certain things in ().

        Snippets from DD press conference:

DD says there is a foundation of guys won't commit to one way. IE trade, FA, development.

DD was hopeful Cherrington would stay,is going to hire a GM. No front runner, is going to work along said GM. Not going to rush into decision. Would've loved to keep Ben around. No timeframe on hiring a GM.

DD is going to have final decision on transactions. (I hope this is true, Henry and Werner need to stay out and just sign the checks.)

No agreement in place where he can/can't bring in anyone from Detroit FO.

DD on analytics: Doesn't agree that we are in a world where you are one or the other. Says Tigers were up to date on analytics.

On Farrell: They talked with each other last night. Doesn't really know John. Take care of your health first and foremost. When you have an opportunity we can talk and get to know each other.

Henry on Cherrington: When we first heard DD was available, thought Ben would stay. And would really strengthen us going forward. Felt this was in best interest.

DD on team building: Need to be able to adjust on the run. I would love to have power pitching. (Ok with this I will take). Defense up the middle and is important. Power at the corners, speed is important. Important that you can go in different directions. (I love that he is saying this because it means that he seems willing to take a long rebuild and develop prospects. And not revert to the Red Sox of old where you develop guys and then trade them for proven talent. I like seeing homegrown developed talent alongside FAs and trades.) FA has plusses and minuses. We know when guys reach a certain age and start to decline and you start paying for past production. We will sit down and discuss them, no certainties.

DD on farm system/value: Very nice. Plusses tremendous system, one of the best. Good young players already here. We use the farm different in Detroit. Winning attitude, traded a lot of talent in that time. All the much better if you can develop your own talent. You will also make trades with these and we will sign FAs as well. Not necessarily going to move fast and make trades like he did in Detroit. Says he thinks that E-Rod could be an ace.

Most pressing issues: Hasn't identified them yet. This is the advantage of starting now. Had to call Masteron and his agent saying he was getting released.

Kennedy on his role: Is to support and provide resources to have the baseball operations on the planet. Lucchino is the best mentor for him.

Wow, sounds like Dombrowski is going to be a great hire for the Sawx though if he hires Wren as his GM that would be really screwy. We've all seen that Wren isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I don't think that will matter too much because Dombrowski has final say on every transaction that's going to be made. So if he thinks the team's getting screwed in a deal he won't allow Wren to make it. The one thing I am scared of is him sticking to his word on team development. That he will utilize all 3 types, homegrown talent, trades, and FA. I don't want to do it what he did in Detroit trading away all of our top prospects for proven MLB talent. I want him to keep guys like Devers, the 2 B's, Swihart, E-Rod and Moncada. The rest get rid of them. I want that to be our nucleus for the next decade or so. Also does anyone know how good his relationship is with Boras?

Well, actually...he is the knife in the drawer.

He cut ties with everybody in the Braves organization and ostracized players (I know Tom Glavine was furious with him at the end of his career), scouts (Hart had to work to get the "old" scouts under Scheirholz back) and the payroll (hello, BJ and Chris Johnson contracts).

Yea, But the '12-'13 offseason, as well as the Punto and E-Rod trades were the highlights of his tenure. He did do a good deal to get the farm system to where it is, and left us with a decent MLB team that is filled with young talent. I think I rushed to judgement saying he was a terrible GM, he was a decent GM that made a few very bad moves. Sadly, those moves were so bad, that we couldn't let that go unnoticed(as fans). Boston needed a change, DD and Kennedy (hopefully as well as Hazen) should be that much needed change. I'm excited to see what this offseason has in store.

I kinda disagree with you on the farm system. Half of the guys were from his tenure and the other from the tail end of Epstein. All of the guys with the exception of E-Rod and Castillo that have made a significant impact on this team have been Epstein guys. Including Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart, Vazquez all were Epstein guys.

8/10 of our current prospects (according to MLB.com) in our #1 ranked system all came under Ben. Not to mention he played a big part in amateur scouting prior to his promotion to GM. He also did a good job at not mortgaging the farm, and keeping it intact. He made obvious mistakes in keeping guys too long (Cecchini, Marrero, Ranaudo) but he did keep some great talent (Bog, Betts, Swihart) and acquired some via trade (E-Rod). That goes to show, projecting players is tough work.

I'm just irked by his decisions, he's been very Leyland-like. When we first brought him in I was so excited to have the young manager come aboard with the ivy league education and a supposed shift to an analytic approach, but then we find out his lead mentor is Leyland. Everything he has done seems to be "old school" instead of the newer style we expected.

Maybe it's just bad luck but so many times he pulls Victor or Big Mig off the basepaths and the runner never scores, then the deciding AB comes up later and instead of the big bat we have Andrew Romine at the plate.

The bullpen management (which I know every single team's fanbase complains about lol) is annoying too, he sticks to the lefty-lefty match up all the time even when the lefty hitter hits left pitchers better than righties. At one point during the season he admitted to saving Alex Wilson in a game where Detroit had a 2 run lead in the 8th because he was PLAYING FOR EXTRAS.

It seems like the Tigers start every season extremely aggressive on the basepaths with guys like Rajai or Gose, or the other speedy guys (Detroit finally has more speed to suit the ballpark), but after the first month the aggression halts, I don't really understand why, especially when there was so much initial success.

I don't hate the guy, but when we hired him I didn't realized he was just Leyland JR. Why let a manager go, make a point to shift to a different managerial style, then hire a guy who has Leyland in his ear calling the shots?

                                I'm ranting, sorry, just frustrated
