Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yep. He hasn't managed the bullpen well at all this year, which is really surprising because he used to be a pitching coach. And then you have a moment in the World freaking Series where he allows Brandon Workman to hit for himself instead of using a pinch hitter. It seems like he doesn't have balls. Under Farrell there were 5 instances where players forgot how many outs there were. A good manager would tell that player he isn't playing in the next game, no matter who it is. And the only reason he is here is because of that fluke season in 2013, and the same could have been said of Cherrington up until this week.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
8/10 of our current prospects (according to MLB.com) in our #1 ranked system all came under Ben. Not to mention he played a big part in amateur scouting prior to his promotion to GM. He also did a good job at not mortgaging the farm, and keeping it intact. He made obvious mistakes in keeping guys too long (Cecchini, Marrero, Ranaudo) but he did keep some great talent (Bog, Betts, Swihart) and acquired some via trade (E-Rod). That goes to show, projecting players is tough work.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The Red Sox do have a strong core of youth though
Betts, Bogaerts, Owens, Devers, Margot, Johnson, Moncada, Benintendi is a fantastic young core and idk which of those are Cherington guys and I'm way too lazy to google but yeah"Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

EDIT: We should also remember to discount anything Cherington has done in the draft because it's a lot easier when you're picking in the top 5 as he's grown so accustomed to doing whereas Epstein was always at the back of the 1st round or out of that round entirely because his teams consistently won games. I'm sure Red Sox fans have a vague recollection of what winning is like (says the Cubs fan, lol).Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 08-23-2015, 12:40 AM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Several fan injuries lately.
Baseball is known for being an intimate sport but I do think netting should be placed around home plate and dugouts. There's no sense in allowing injuries to continue to happen and potentially have a death or crippling injury occur because of pride.
Not saying MLB is like that but I've heard arguments that fans need to be more attentive...trying to dodge a 110mph baseball (after exit velocity) is trying for any person when so close to the plate.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

It's pretty damn sad that it takes losing a life for something so simple as putting netting around to happen. A little girl had to lose her life at an NHL game before they put netting around the rink at every NHL arena.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I remember reading that the owner's declined putting up netting when it was brought up a few years ago. Just doesn't make any sense to not have it at this point.Comment
