I think WAR is an important stat that MLB refuses to acknowledge....why not incorporate it and define it for all teams and the media to use.

I do think WAR for pitchers is not rated correctly. Bullpen guys rarely get anything above a 2+...look at Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty in 2011 (homer alert), they were spectacular but don't seem to be able to show they're stand out pitchers when looking at WAR. I think for RP, games AND IP should both be used in conjunction - a RP that has a 1.00 WHIP in 90 IP and 80 games is a better pitcher than a SP who has a 1.45 WHIP in 90 IP and 15 games.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

That's pretty bad *** but it's more work to say Abusador than his actual name so what am I saving.

The day Acuña came up, Skip was calling Ozzie Albies "El Viejo." I thought that was pretty clever.

I little blurb out of today's Peter Gammons The Athletic article on Ichiro:

One morning in spring training, 2017, he was in the coaches' room looking at his cell phone text messages. Ichiro told the coaches about one message he had just received from a number he didn't recognize. The guy said he'd gotten Ichiro's number from Alex Rodriguez, and that he wanted to come meet him and study his stretching system.

"What's the guy's name?" asked one of the coaches.

Ichiro scrolled to the end of the text. "Some guy named Tom Brady. Who the F--- is Tom Brady?"
Ichiro needs to have a book.

I just watched about 20 minutes of highlights of him. It was awesome when he was with the Cubs a few years ago.

Dunno if the video will work in the US but for Braves fans here's an interview with Alex Anthopoulos about Jose Bautista and for Jays fans there's some nuggets about the Vlad Jr. signing for the Jays under AA's regime.

I collect bobbleheads so I'm excited about the Tony Gwynn one released today. I perused and looked at the 1998 SDP and saw one of the most forgotten great pitchers of the previous generation: Kevin Brown.

Dude has a career 76.5 fWAR that is 25th in history...and he 2.1% of the vote his first ballot.

Yeah, it's amazing how Kevin Brown isn't remembered much at all today. If anything he's probably best remembered for crapping the bed in game 7 of the '04 ALCS.

I always enjoyed watching him ply his craft.

Think Kevin fell off the ballots so quickly because he was involved in taking peds of some sort.

But you could definitely make a case for him. One of the forgotten pitchers.

And yet does anyone really think of him as a surefire HoFer? He had some dominant years, but there was a lot of ups and downs. Made a ton of money in LA, tho.
