Yep, this was THAT inevitable. I doubt Davis has another hitting coach job in MLB again.

I doubt your doubt simply because he did a pretty good job with Oakland or he never would've got opportunities with Boston and Chicago. He may have to rehabilitate his image a little with an assistant gig or with a more desperate team, however.

Dbacks installing turf at Chase Field for next season.

While purists may say that baseball should only be played on grass, it makes way more sense to go synthetic in the desert

The grass they had already played fast (probably fastest natural grass in the league), so this won't be much different when it comes to grounder speed. May bounce more depending on the turf type though. Probably just much easier for them to maintain is all, especially with the high-vaulted structuring of the stadium. I hope they keep their iconic dirt path that leads from home to the mound.

What they really need to do is fix their roof. There are a bunch of leaks in it, especially right over the pitcher's landing spot.

On this day 115 years ago, the Boston R̶e̶d̶ ̶S̶o̶x̶ Americans beat the Pittsburg Pirates in the first ever World Series, 5 games to 3, overcoming a 3-1 deficit by winning 4 straight.

Let's take a look at the program.

I was warming up with my slowpitch softball team last night when a teammate told me that his Trivia game consisted of only one sports question, asking what gesture Dusty Baker and some other player invented.

Apparently Dusty Baker invented the high-five???

I had no idea it was that "recent" of a gesture. That is crazy weird to think about.

Interesting. I didn't know this either and went to wiki. I guess there are conflicting theories on it. But everyone seems to agree it's fairly new.

They'll reduce their water usage by 90%. It also allows them to keep the roof closed more in the summer time. They had to keep the roof open due to the grass needing sunlight to grow.

Definitely need to fix the roof. That's been a problem for about 5 years now, but Miracopa County wouldn't make necessary fixes. That is why the Snakes have been trying to get out of their lease and looking at alternative sites for a new ballpark.

                        That's really interesting to me.

In any event, I like the layout of their field but the stadium is atrocious and needs to be upgraded or demo'd first a new one.

It's funny to me how a building that's ONLY 20 years old is considered outdated.

                            Atrocious? How so?

I haven't been there in a couple years but my last recollection of it was that it's a beautiful place to watch a game.

The county the team's stadium is in voted back in May to allow the team to build a new park in the county by 2022, releasing them 5 years early of initial lease...but the team own any repairs (not noted as renovations) in the current park, which is estimated is $187MM.

It's a great place to watch a game but the structural issues are substantial. Having artificial turf will definitely be a negative look too as the path from the catcher to the pitcher I found to be iconic.

AZ has similar issues to what OAK has in terms of a sub-standard facility.

I think the are keeping the dirt path, but I'm not 100% sure.

EDIT: This was on their website press release.

The surface will remain nearly identical to what has been in place since the stadium saw its first game in 1998 including the dirt path between the mound and home plate.
