Interesting article for Cubs fans and non-Cubs fans alike.

If you strip away sequencing effects, the Dodgers have played like the best team in the NL.

We can bemoan one of the Cubs/Pirates not making it to the NLDS, but the new format is much better than the old one IMO. Look at a team like the Florida Marlins who have two championships and zero division titles in their history. The new format puts an appropriate amount of weight for winning your division.

What is that link supposed to show? No where does it talk sequencing or show the Dodgers as the best team in baseball.

He said the best team in the NL. I believe he's referencing that the Dodgers have the best Base Runs run differential in the NL. I admittedly don't know much about Base Runs beyond the following:

There is a third section on the FanGraphs page, which is the BaseRuns section. BaseRuns are considered "second order" wins. BaseRuns attempts to predict the number of runs scored and allowed based on the component offensive statistics of a team (walks, hits, etc). BaseRuns works to get closer to a team's true talent than PythagenPat.

Yea, I looked at that...and it hit me when I looked again that when I see Astros I still think NL.

Look at the column at the far right called "2015 BaseRuns" and sort by winning %. The Dodgers are ahead of every NL team.

BaseRuns is a team’s expected record if every team’s distribution of events was the same. So, while single/single/HR is more valuable than HR/single/single, BaseRuns treats those two series of events as equal. In other words, it treats the ordering of offensive production as if it's completely random. That's because it basically is.

Got it...although I haven't read up on the theory behind that. It doesn't seem like that would truly be a measure of true talent. A team that has Ben Revere and Rafael Belliard is going to go single/single more often than a team with Mike Trout and Pujols, no?

Haven't thought of this name in a LONG time.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I remember when Raffy would come up in the Goody's home run jack pot inning Skip would just apologize to the person who's name he had drawn...
