Re: MLB Off-Topic
Then the last two years happened and the Tigers got off to red hot starts the first month and fizzled after that and my theory went out the window, so I guess I don't really have a point and don't really need to click submit reply but I'm doing it anywayWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Whether in Fahrenheit or Celsius it's absolutely miserable. Add in the winds that time of year and it's abysmal.
They're getting paid to do it so at least there's that argument (and it isn't necessarily a terrible one) but I can speak from many years of experience playing college baseball in NE Pennsylvania that after coming back from our week of playing in Florida for Spring Break and then starting the season in late March in PA it's just absolutely miserable.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yes, baseball in weather under 45 degrees is awful. Pitchers can't feel their fingers, guys in the field tense up because there's a lot of standing around time. It's doable, but not pretty.Comment

Even as a hitter, when it's cold and the bat hits the ball just right it'll find a way to make your hands/arms numb. Especially with aluminum batsWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I couldn't throw breaking stuff as well and it took me longer to warm up than usual but the fielders are the ones who suffer because as mentioned above they have to stand around barely moving while in the field.
You're fooling yourself if you think you can just "put long sleeves on" to stay warm in the cold weather. It's not that easy.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yea, whenever it's cold outside, I'll use a wooden bat, other than that it's aluminum all the way. This mostly goes for practices in March because in New England, the games start in April, so it's a lot warmer.Red Sox: 2018 World Series Champions!!!

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The cold March and April is one of the major reasons I stopped playing baseball at just 33. Played competitively every summer for basically 20 years but I'm tired of the cold workouts. Even if the summer months are nice, getting ready for those months gets worse every year.

Aluminum bats ewwwwww.
I don't mind the cold weather training. We go out to the back field (no diamond at our school, we play at a local place as our home field) in our sweatpants and sweaters and shag fly balls, it's fun.

To bring up the 154 game schedule again. This has been proposed again recently or is going to be proposed again very soon. And I hope it happens, that way the season can start on time, mid-April and end relatively early, like in the middle to end of October.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You Canadians must not have nerve endings...when I played college ball it was in the North East. Practice started in January when snow was on the ground (we were indoors for the first 2 months of practice) and then we would go to Miami first week of March for a national tournament to kick off the season before coming back to start our regular season.
Nothing sucked harder than going from Miami where you played in sunshine, short sleeves, and cool breezes, to 30°F, blowing winds with some snow, and ground so hard it was like concrete. I would wear three layers and have hand warmers in my back pockets while standing in CF miserable as could be. After growing up playing ball in Florida it was a shock and something I never really got used to even after 4 years."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not sure of the logistics/mathematics, but totally in favor. Pretty much cuts the season by a week or two. And I'd prefer that be to end the season earlier then push the start of the season up. I'd much rather have the most meaningful baseball played under the usual conditions then the early season under better conditions when pitchers and hitters are still getting back into the rhythm anyway.
And it's a small enough subtraction from the 162 they play now that statistics wouldn't be altered toooo much. I'd be in favor of even chopping 14 or so games off but anything more is too much. Even that's pushing it as it's about 2-2.5 weeks worth of baseball.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Scenario I thought of for schedule....(division vs division interleague, means one year it'd be east vs east/central vs central/west vs west. Next year it'd be AL East vs NL Central,AL Central vs NL West,AL West vs NL East, and so on)
Scenario 1:
Interleague division vs division play=20 games(1 home & 1 away,2 game series)
Facing other 2 divisions in your own league=60 games(2 home & 2 away,3 game series)
Facing the 4 teams in your own division=80 games(2 home & 2 away,3 game series,and 1 home & 1 away,4 game series)
Total=160 games
160 games, with perfectly balanced schedules for all teams in a division, playing same number of home and away games vs each team that they face.Last edited by Majingir; 08-18-2015, 01:00 PM.Comment

^^^Why only cut 2 games off the schedule, that does NOTHING? You need to do something drastic, like cut it 20 or so games.Comment
