I didn't realize baseball had become a joke. What exactly has changed about the actual game because of statistical analysis?

It's not like singles were outlawed and walks equal a run.

Old athletes should stay away from the twitter verse, stop talking to people and close the door. A lot of dumb things coming out of their mouths in various sports.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

He's probably angry because some snot-nosed grad in his uppity white uniform and his Harvard mouth has taken his job as a potential front-office manager.

                    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Going back to the discussion about the difference between the AL vs. NL strategy...

Watched an interview with Costas and Showalter and Buck said something interesting. Paraphrasing here, but he said there are given outs in the NL which dictates moves without thought; for the most part, it can be discerned what PH would be used or what relief pitcher may be brought in to face said PH...the good thing is that it's easier to make players happier in the NL as players are constantly in the game somehow. In the AL, the MGR must have a pulse continually on the game as a lead can vanish much more quickly given the lineup is 1-9; in addition, bullpen usage plays a heavier factor with getting guys to go multiple innings and save arms.

On a side note...Costas constantly talked but Showalter has such knowledge and appreciation for the game, it's so easy to like him I think. Costas asked him whether he wanted to walk Jeter on his last AB at Yankee Stadium (where he ended up hitting the game winning RBI single) and Showalter grinned and said: "I'm not tipping my hand". Basically, it was an implication he wanted to but he knew for the better of the game he couldn't - which as a baseball fan I appreciate.

I don't like him either. Don't think he's as knowledgeable as he thinks but he definitely thinks he is.

First on Goose Gossage....Man, tell us how you really feel! That story about his son is pretty disgraceful too.

As for Mike Lupica, that guys is a major douche. I've seen him on the sports reporters and he has this attitude of "I know way more than you guys STFU!" He also has the body language and look of a guy who's a total weasel.

We see or hear too much of him in New York.

Definitely one of the main culprits in providing gossip and fuel for the fan base here that takes the word of reporters as bible.

To me, him, Berman and Isola are the three-headed monsters of the city.

Frank Isola? I'm curious of your thoughts oh him, YP.

I only see him on Around The Horn and while he's not my favorite (and is extremely NY centric), he's not bad.
