If I did something against the ToS, cool, call me out on it, but it's ridiculous how I get called a smartass, dick, *******, POS, and other things, as well as get told that I'm the reason that you stay out of this forum because I use stats that aren't popular with people, and that that's okay, but somehow what I say isn't.

I use some basic sabremetrics stats and am still learning or trying to learn more of them. When you comment on my posts with advanced stats I just go to FanGraphs and look up what they mean lol. I like learning new stats so I don't mind when you do it.
To me, sabremetrics is very important to the game now because you can look deeper at a player and have more accurate predictions. Sure traditional stats are simple and easy to look at, but you are not getting the whole picture.

You can PM me if you ever have any questions on that stuff. I feel like having a live person explain it might be more helpful than the glossary, which they're actually rewriting, so hopefully it'll improve.

I just took one weekend night, read through the entire glossary section, and started challenging myself to think as critically about advanced stats as possible so that I could better understand them. So every chance I get, I'll look at what's causing a player to play like he is.

Chris Young is still stumping me lol.

It's a cool fun fact but it's also misleading imo. Better examples could be Jay Bruce or Mark Trumbo.

Sabermetrization should be in the dictionary lol.

I know, I was just giving a hypothetical.

I was pointing out what happens when you misuse stats. I dunno, I could have said "See, this is what happens when you misuse stats" but that doesn't sound much different/better. I don't see how I was being high and mighty. Cam and I have discussions like this all the time, in the forums and through PM.

I dunno, I think I have the right to be a bit defensive when I frequently get blasted and told that I'm exactly what's wrong with this forum (not just you) for merely having an opinion.
        I can confirm.

It's just that I wasn't expecting a fun fact like that to get into a debate. I don't see anything wrong with advanced metrics, it's a part of baseball.

I apologize, like I said, I don't visit these discussion often as previously mentioned and didn't know you frequently get "blasted."

Can't say I'm surprised based on the few posts I've seen recently but I was in no way suggesting that you are a bad poster or anywhere near violating the TOS.

Like I said, have at it, but if it's constantly getting negative reactions at what point do you look in the mirror?

            Lol, neither was I.

Btw I maintain that Brock Holt will end up as a dumpster fire unless he turns out to be elite defensively lol.

What's the deal with Sean Coyle? Is he getting traded or is he gonna get moved off of second? He's basically Peddy reincarnate.

I fully understand that I'm the problem. People just do not like sabermetrics. Quite frankly, I wouldn't post here if that's all that mattered. But I've been lurking on this forum since like 2007. I love OS. I don't really want to stop posting. But I also don't want to change my opinion on things just to be liked.

It's the struggle of having people hate me for my opinion or just not posting at all lol. I've learned to live with it but the last 2ish months have been a little worse. I never really expected it from OS but it comes with the territory, I guess.

First one through the wall always gets bloody!

                Spoiler

In English, Hamels' contract really, really cuts into his worth as an asset to the point that he's maybe half as valuable as Russell.

A fair exchange for him would a hitter in the 25-50 top prospect range like Arismendy Alcantara, Jorge Soler, or Albert Almora straight up, or a pitcher 11-25 which the Cubs don't have. And Hamels is a 30 y/o pitcher which, while factored into the aging curve, detracts from his value in that his arm could go boom at any time, in which you're left with a CC style steaming heap of contract.

This could all change depending on how much money the Phillies eat. For Addy Russell to be fair (not even necessarily worth it) for the Cubs, they'd have to eat $20-30M.

So yeah, I really wouldn't do that lol. GG Theo.
I really have a feeling Theo just put a claim out to see if he could sneak a below-value trade in there and steal Hamels away without having to worry about any other teams sweetening a deal. There was no chance he was giving Bryant/Baez/Russell, and probably wasn't planning to offer Almora/Soler either.

Smart idea by one of the best in the game. It was a no lose situation

The FanGraphs glossary. I think it's really well done but the whole not having someone to ask questions to is a problem.

There are frequent live chats with the writers though, that's always fun.

Ok then that's the one I use. I agree that an actual person explaining it would make things easier.
I read some of the articles on there and some of the pitching stats they use are hard to understand. Also fielding is hard but I understand that most fielding stats are unreliable.
Hitting seems to be the easiest and make the most sense to me.

They had this article about a breakout pitcher that you might have heard of. I hear he's the next big thing.

He escaped the jam. Adam Dunn threw 22 pitches. 12 of them went for strikes. He threw 20 fastballchanges, a maybecurve and a pretty decent looking slider.
                        That was great haha.
