I'm not going to go through the Miggy/Trout stuff because everyone has been through that lol.
No doubt the Blue Jays playoff narrative was there, but when these guys are just 3 tenths of a WAR point apart, it's basically a toss up. In cases like that, Donaldson's extra 20 RBI and going to the playoffs is sort of a tiebreaker. I would've been fine with either one winning it. In fact, they probably deserved to split it as co-MVPs.

You would think with a highly valued player like Harper that if he's playing with a right shoulder injury they'd put him on the DL for his and the team's long term benefit. Even a stiff neck is nothing to joke about.

And also defensive stats should play into it. Offensive numbers so close, but you'd have to give defensive numbers to Donaldson. I'd say there's a bigger gap last year between Donaldson's defense vs Trout's, compared to their offense. And even then, Donaldson did win Hank Aaron award too, so even those voters thought he was better on offense.

          Off-topic MLB post alert.

I own full-sized MLB pennants for the following teams: Angels, A's, Braves, Brewers, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Giants, Mariners, Mets, Padres, Red Sox, Tigers, White Sox, Yankees.

Now it may be cheaper for me to get the other 16 individually, but even if it is, the one real problem I have is that I got all of these pennants pre-2000, which means a lot of teams' logos have changed.

In completing my collection, do you think it's worth it to just buy a whole new set? I'm guessing that way they would complement each other more, but I liked the "individual" looks of all of my pennants previously.

I'd stick with what you have...I think it's cooler to have the retro logos anyway. Just my .02.

I was looking up old videos and stumbled across this one...

It's the background of a Eddie Perez/Paul Byrd fight back in 1999; the very end where Perez is helping Byrd is really fascinating to me.

What do you guys think about the minor leaguer's streak being extended to 50 after an error was changed to a double after the game? I watched the play and it most certainly looked like an error to me...

I couldn't really find a super clear video of it. The one I saw shows the hit, and then doesn't really show the 3rd baseman all the way until the ball is past him. The fact that they overturned it immediately made me think it was strange.

The odd thing is they didn't overturn it until an hour AFTER the game was completed...so he thought his streak was over. You probably saw the same video I did, but it looks like the 3B went down to a knee to back hand it and it went right under the glove. Seems like ordinary effort and he let it by him...but I'm glad he has a chance to keep it going.

I haven't seen the video but want to comment on the part I bolded. That's not such an irregular occurrence. It used to happen a LOT at the Major League level where things like that would be changed overnight. Nowadays with camera angles all over the place most box score changes happen during a game.

I think the minor leagues operate more like MLB did back in the day so this isn't surprising. I bet it was an error but they're trying to give this guy every chance he can unless it's incontrovertibly an error.

Yeah, they aren't going to end a feel-good story on a 50/50 play.

I'm glad they didn't....BTW, hard to believe it that Joe D holds the MLB record of 56 games AND he had a 61 game streak as an 18 year old in the PCL. What a ball player!

When I saw that list I thought I may have gotten Dimaggio confused with Gehrig or Maris as the player with the longest hit streak....That's just mind boggling
