I'd be fine if the Cubs went away. Would lower that "Average number of seasons since last championship" number.

Looks like baseball is really catching on in Canada. I just read a tweet that gave the numbers for the Giants/Mets game. More than 975,000 Canadians watched. That's a pretty crazy good number for a game not involving the Jays.

Probably just people excited for baseball in general. Excitement of Tuesday night just carrying over to the next night.

But if Jays win ALDS BEFORE Sox-Indians series is done, you know the ratings here for that series will end up jumping so much. Jays fans watching their next opponent.

Wow! I'd love to see the numbers of that game compared to an NHL playoff game featuring non-CDN teams.
I have to think the Giants/Mets game destroys it. Might even have higher ratings than a CDN playoff game.

I know a lot of hockey-loving buddies of mine have started caring more about baseball in recent years due to the boring nature of the NHL.

I can't imagine someone watching hockey, deciding this is too boring, and then switching over to baseball and being like "This is the fun I was looking for".

And that's coming from a baseball addict lol.

LOL, I know what you mean.
But as someone who was obsessed with hockey for nearly my entire life, hockey's entertainment value has dropped significantly over the past 10 years, IMO.
I can barely stomach to watch a game now. Every goal is the same - rebound/deflection/screen.
The game is more about lucky bounces, endless cycling in the corner, blocked shots, and one boring inflated belly-save after another.

Baseball is a different animal in that it's not in constant motion. But it's a 'cleaner' game.
You're not scoring runs because the ball deflected off of 4 infielders shins, then skipped off a base, then the runner scores because 4 teammates crowd home-plate so the catcher can't get to the runner.

To make a poor comparison with football, every hockey game is basically decided by field-goals and 3-yard goaline mash-ups.
I'd guess the NFL would plummet in ratings if that were the case.
The Falcons 500yard passing, 300-yard receiving would never, ever happen in an NHL game today.

Here's a Hockey News article from last April. The average ratings from April 13th to 17th saw only an average of 513,000 fans watching which was down 61% from the previous year.

Maybe we're transitioning to where baseball is Canada's Game? And hockey is America's Pastime?

                    Thanks!

Just goes to show you how the NHL is very much a regional sport. Very few fans watch out-of-market games.
I know MLB is more of a regional sport as well, but hockey has to be the worst in this regard.
And it goes back to my soap box complaint that the game is so boring now, there's no reason why anyone would want to watch a game that doesn't feature their favourite team.
I used to watch the Nordiques on the french CBC station back in the day.
Now, you might have to pay me to watch a non-Wings game.

So I asked this on twitter but...

What would be a bigger disappointment, the Rangers getting swept or the Red Sox getting swept?

Red Sox probably. Blue Jays are pretty good and many thought Red Sox were the best team in the AL and were coming in a series where CLE wouldn't have Salazar or Carrasco.

It's Boston. Texas played pretty far above their record this year. To lose a series to a team they lost to last year would not be a surprising result. I think Texas still plays the long game.

With Boston, they spent all that money to make sure they wouldn't miss the playoffs, and really, get to the World Series. They got the retirement season of a lifetime out of Ortiz. They got a great season out of Porcello that may or may not happen again next year. Boston had to make it happen this year as the AL East laggers of this year are going to be back in it next year. They made quite a few moves and it's just hard to see how they planned on bowing out without a playoff win given all that.

I'd say Boston getting swept. Rangers are top team, but that run differential was bound to catch up to them eventually. Boston got hot in September and had great offense.

                                Boston might've peaked too soon.
