I don't disagree with that...all "closers" should be used like he has been used this year. I'm just not going to anoint the guy the "best reliever" in baseball when there are 3 or 4 other guys who are interchangeable/as good as he is, IMO.

Who would these just as good interchangeable guys be? I am curious

        Zach Britton
        Aroldis Chapman
        Craig Kimbrel (?)
        Kenley Jansen (?)
        Dellin Betances (?)
        Wade Davis (?)

Those guys are up there with Miller. Maybe not quite as versatile in terms of getting stretched to 2-3 IP/appearance.

That's what makes him better overall then each of them IMO, and I'm a huge Betances fan. Either way we both make good points and all of these options at end of game are great choices, I just think miller with his versatility puts him a little over these other guys

My only point is that I don't think Miller is head and shoulders above the other top guys. He might be the best though.

I think Miller was as good as the others this year (if not better), but he's older than the others and will fade out sooner too.

I would say Chapman fades out faster, the human arm can only throw 103+ mph for so long, lol. But damn it's amazing to watch, from the couch that is

^ I don't disagree with that; I know that Miller might be the best "pitcher" of the bunch, but he already is in his thirties is all.

Miller just had the third best xFIP- as far back as the stat goes. Wade Davis walks more guys a month than Miller did all year. I don't know how you have them in the same echelon.

It's really just Miller up there. Then I suppose Britton/Betances/Jansen/Chapman, then probably Kimbrel/Diaz, and so on.

I generally agree with you but Nolan Ryan threw 100 MPH every once in a great while during his 40s. Of course, he may very well be the exception that proves the rule.

I think Chapman might be able to keep throwing that gas for longer then most would expect. I expected him to be here and gone with the Reds but he's hung around longer already then I thought and really delivered on the promise he had as a pitcher. I think he could be an exception too.

Yea you both make very valid points, he could very well be an exception. Will be interesting where he ends up this offseason as I'm sure there will be a good bidding war for his services

I'd take Miller over every one of those guys except Britton.

Mike Hazen has been hired as the new Dbacks executive vice president and general manager. Strong possibility Red Sox bench coach Torrey Lovullo follows as new manager.
