No sports free agent system I find perfect.

NBA at least makes RFA where teams can match an offer. NHL has it too, but if they let someone go, they get draft pick compensation for it(which I think has only happened one time ever in history).

One day maybe some league will find a close to perfect system to implement.
You don't see S&T situations anymore since free agents can't sign for more than 4 years with a new team.

Was such a complicated mess before. I much prefer how the NBA handles it now. 5 years only if you return to your team and no trade.

Yeah I love this idea too. A little give and take goes a long way toward labor peace and I could see an international draft helping nations that have seen their representation rates in the MILB/MLB system start to fall precipitously.

Killing the QO? I see the Yankees won today without taking the field...

Both that and an international draft kill the Rangers, but JD & Co. know what they're doing so it shouldn't be too bad.

For those that haven't been following this international draft isn't a good thing. It has nothing to do with competitive balance but more to line the owner's pockets. IT And the MLB has had to cancel multiple showcases in countries like Venezuela and the Dominican Republic because of protests from players. Ben Badler from BaseballAmerica has some great coverage on the international market and how to reform it.

His solution is to help all teams compete for players which is nice but again, like every solution people come up with, is very centric. It's not about America. It's about the International market. Everyone forgets that.

The real problem with the international market is the MLB is putting a bandaid on its influence by creating rules for their teams that ignores the international players.

MLB has no jurisdiction in other countries. They pretend to. They like to think they have influence. They like to make the American fans think the same. It's a joke. They have nothing. That's why their only solution is to control their teams. They cannot control the actual market.

If MLB wants to really really influence the international market they need to get real serious about spending money to have offices down there that legitimize every single player. They have to disallow any signings for players that do not run through their system only.

The guys that run things in other markets are sharks. It cuts too deep. But since it's probably impossible for MLB to be everywhere, none of these solutions will impact much. At the end it's going to keep talent away if they create a draft or keep the current system intact.

(I would normally watch my collection but i'm OCD in that I have to watch in chronological order and i'm nowhere close to my next baseball game) I chose to watch 4/25/93 Red Sox vs Angels. This was a Sunday Night Baseball game so I have some notes I took that I think would be of interest:

              1. Even in 1993 Miller and Morgan were cozy as heck with each other. They'd only been working together for 4 years at this point but watching the game they were talking as if they were just two guys watching the game on TV. It was a very informal feeling. It was actually refreshing as I sometimes think baseball commentary today is a little TOO hung up on the analysis aspect.

              2. The aspects of both men (Miller having an elitist attitude and over pronouncing latin names, Morgan making inane comments) were not really prevalent in this game and Morgan actually made a great point about the effectiveness of Angels pitcher Scott Sanderson's breaking pitches in a game that was mostly played in twilight.

              3. Here's something interesting: The Angels had THREE members of the 2016 Red Sox coaching staff on their roster. (2 of whom played in the game) One of those guys hit a HR but it's not who you would think.

              4. If this game was played by today's rules the Red Sox may have forced extra innings or won as the game more or less ended on a BAAAAD call.

Pretty fun pitchers duel between Sanderson and Clemens while also seeing the foundation of the '90s Angels teams with a young JT Snow and Tim Salmon getting a ton of love.
Thanks for this...I didn't know this game was on youtube, so now I'm going to watch it. Big fan of watching old games in the offseason!

There are a few baseball channels on youtube. I usually stream it over my chromecast on TV. It isn't perfect but it's doable most times. If you want a list of where I find games send me a PM.

Dodgers Must Cut Debt To Comply With MLB Rules

The Dodgers have two of the best free agents on the market in closer Kenley Jansen and third baseman Justin Turner, but the franchise’s mountainous debt could make it difficult to re-sign either. The club will trim payroll in 2017 as it seeks to reduce debt in order to comply with Major League Baseball rules, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

After combining for a league-high $1.181 billion (including $112MM in luxury-tax payments) in end-of-season payrolls in their first four years under Guggenheim Baseball Management, the Dodgers are “hundreds of millions in debt,” a source said. “We’re not talking about, ‘Let’s reduce our payroll by $40 million and we’ll be compliant,'” the source commented. That’s despite signing a record television contract worth $8.35 billion over 25 years in 2013 and selling more tickets than every other team in each of the past four seasons.

Franchises must comply with MLB’s debt service rule within five years of new ownership taking over. The rule “limits debt to no more than 12 times annual revenue, minus expenses,” writes Shaikin. If a team is in violation, the commissioner has 16 options to discipline that club, including requiring approval of expenditures and issuing suspensions to ownership and/or management. Rob Manfred isn’t worried he’ll have to take such drastic measures with the Dodgers, though.

Most of our big contract guys were under Ned Colletti and most of them will be off the books by next year. Everyone else is under team friendly controllable deals.

Royals have a new Friday alternate uniform for 2017.

The Diamondbacks are making changes to their new uniforms as well. They are removing the snake skin design at the bottom of the pants. They are also using team color cleats now as well.

Likewise, since it's PS4 only now they might be able to change it up.

I really love the whole new facelift the Royals franchise got, starting with their stadium and now going into uniform types such as those. Adding that bit of "royal gold" right alongside royal blue is just gorgeous.
