Re: MLB Off-Topic
Just read Swisher's Players Tribute piece too. No doubt he wrote it, haha.
I'm not one for the "bros" but Swisher is one of my favorites. I'm really glad to hear he'll be a studio guy for Fox this coming year. Great news.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
McCutchen is only the second athlete I actually follow on social media. (The other being JJ Watt)
He's amazing to his fans, such a nice, great person. My favorite player in the league and I'm glad he isn't in NY to get booed for having one down year."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Yeah. There are so many baseball players I want to buy shirts of but not nearly enough money to do it. Cutch is high on the list. Very high.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So while we're still in that weird period where it's Spring Training but no games have started yet I've been watching the '95 ALCS from my collection. This was during the ill fated Baseball Network where ABC and NBC shared broadcasting duties. The games in Seattle were broadcast on ABC while the games in Cleveland were done by NBC. This was also the year where the LCS' were BOTH played at the same time. It was thought that regionalization of broadcasts would boost ratings but alas that didn't quite work.
ANYWAYS....
I forgot just how good of a TV personality Bob Uecker was/is. The guy hit it off with Bob Costas pretty well though I can sense a slight friction beneath the mostly upbeat presentation. That being said, Uecker really emphasized the "color" in being the color man. He really presented himself as jovial, fun AND knowledgeable about the game. There was one point where they were talking about the blimp overhead and Uecker asked Costas if he's ever been on one and Costas said something to the effect that he doesn't do very well being up high in a dirigible. Ueck then shoots back that he hasn't been on a blimp either but that he's been high. ROFL!
Ah well, just marveling at the great work of Bob Uecker. You fans in Milwaukee that hear him on the radio all the time have a real jewel. Once he retires i'm sure it'll never be the same again.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Dexter Fowler probably has absolutely zero regrets signing with the team that he did.

Nothing he said, according to the quote used, was politically charged. People have interesting ways of dealing with their insecurities."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Apparently Eric Gagne is mulling a comeback. Doubt he's still got the goods.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So do you know anything about him other than his age that may give us insight into why you don't think a comeback is feasible or are you just making an assumption?Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
If anything, it simply indicates not too many pitchers get to hold on for that much longer. Then again, he has probably pitched significantly less than them as well, so hopefully that's a good sign of less aging.
I love to see the older players play. Rickey Henderson, Julio Franco, Jamie Moyer... hell I'd take Bonds again as like a 50 year old. Even Mr. 3000 was a fun tale because of that. I understand he's not quite that old, but I'd love to see him come back for sure.Last edited by Blzer; 02-20-2017, 07:22 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
