Don't get why it matters, the first 4 don't count?

One title in 14 years for the "Face Of Baseball" doesn't matter? I thought being the "Face Of Baseball" had something to do with recent relevancy.

Who would you say is the face of baseball, if we are going by titles? David Ortiz? Buster Posey? Is it that hard to say two titles in 15 years?

Ortiz and Posey aren't being proclaimed the "Face Of Baseball"*.

It's not just the scarcity of recent titles and no MVP Award. This mythical title (FOB*) seems to be New York media driven, fueled by Jeter's retirement and the lack of a parade in the Big Apple.

Of course if Bud Selig says he's the "face" who am I to argue?

Ok, but who do YOU think is the face of baseball? People ask but you still haven't provided a name. Since you're only going by championships, it would have to be Ortiz.

Seriously, I don't see how Jeter isn't the face of baseball.

I don't think there is a face of baseball, and I said as much in a reply to NY Jets.

Your not getting it, Face of a sport means the most popular, doesn't have to mean the best overall player, Jeter is a household name.

Sounds complicated. I'm going to meditate on it for a while.

Wow. This is crazy. The odds of this happening are apparently one. Good story.

That's acceptable, lol it really doesn't matter, I was just saying he's quite a familiar face and name.

I'd say he was one of the main faces of this generation of baseball. Even bigger since he played the game cleanly and everything seeing how he was part of the era with guys like Bonds,McGuire,Clemens and all that. But Jeter is basically like MLBs Kobe Bryant(or Kobe is NBAs Derek Jeter....). At least that's how I viewed it. Guys who are basically like the face of a generation of their sport, playing on that sports biggest franchise for their entire career.

                            On to another topic now...
Too bad Pirates-Nats matchup(if it happens) will be the NLDS. I wanted that to be NLCS so either one would be guaranteed a WS appearance.

                            My predictions for playoffs:
                            A's,Pirates win WC games

                            LDS:
                            A's over Angels
                            O's over Tigers
                            Dodgers over Cards
                            Nats over Pirates

                            LCS:
                            A's over O's
                            Nats over Dodgers

                            WS:
                            Nats over A's

I guess what makes him considered the face of baseball IS the fact that he's a household name.
Everybody "outside" of baseball knows Derek Jeter and has heard nothing but great things about him and his career.

I'm a jeet fan, obviously, but he truly was a purist in the sport. Played hard everyday, loved the game, and above all stayed humble and quiet.

Ya. Even though I hate Yankees more than any team in sports(and I'm a bigger Leaf fan than Jays fan,and Leafs have one of biggest rivalries in sports which has gone on almost 100 year), Jeter is the only Yankees guy I've ever liked. No matter how much I might hate Yankees, I've never hated Jeter.
