Why do teams have to have such boring primaries. Colorado replaces their Rockies logo with CR. Pittsburgh replaced their Pirate logo with P. San Diego while it wasn't the best logo, at least their circular logo looked better than just the generic SD one they got now. Cleveland changed theirs for a diff reason, but theirs is just a generic C now.
But you know exactly who the team is when you see their logo, so the job is getting done.

I've always preferred the cap logos. Hated seeing the Yankees script in merchandise or items that I owned. I wanted that interlocking NY.

Give me that Pirates P all day. Same with the Rockies CR.

I agree with you but I like the Yankees script with the oversized patriotic hat with the bat. It's a bit busy in some respects but it screams out the excesses of the George Steinbrenner era to me.

Saw where Manfred, in pace-of-play talk, isnt against cutting down on commercials at some point in the future. That kind of talk will have the owners putting him in the same boat as one Fay Vincent. I didnt have any problems with making IBB automatic and no pitches thrown. That was one positive step in shortening games. But MLB needs about 30 more of those small things implemented to add up to something of significance. If games are ever under an average of 150 minutes again, I'd be stunned.

They should just do what auto racing and soccer does in regards to commercials. Go to a split screen and turn the audio feed over to the commercials while they play. You'll see what goes on between innings or dead periods of time and still get the commercials.

Do soccer games actually do that? I've never seen it happen.

But for baseball, maybe cut down on commercial breaks between innings, but add commercial spots during mound visits and end of plays.

Don't know about USA broadcasts, but for the Jays, they occasionally do have ads airing inbeween plays themselves. Nothing happens from the time an out is recorded until the moment the next pitch is thrown, so you could fit a 10 second ad in that spot. Not every time obviously, but even 3 times each half inning is equivalent to a single 30 second ad that'd happen between innings.

I don't understand how that would change the pace of play?

I don't understand why I have to keep saying this but commercials only happen during dead air time in between innings. They add zero time to length of game.

Commercial breaks as is are about two minutes long in between innings or sixty seconds for a pitching change. They are not what is adding to the length of the game.

As I said in previous posts, the added length to games is due to hitter being more patient than we've ever seen and that's not going to go anywhere unless you want to make an at bat a 3 ball, 2 strike at bat.

                  I hope that never happens.

It is a pretty stark contrast to watch a game say, from 1978, and a game today. Each hitter gets into the box and it's like they have a dinner reservation because they are all swinging at nearly everything.

Yeah, with strikeouts WAY up and walks relatively unchanged, I'd say batters are LESS patient than ever before. While you now have 12 pitchers on a staff where you used to have 8,9,10 at most, the bullpen usage has more to do with longer games than anything hitters are doing.

Pitcher per AB have gone up, I believe. Guys are striking out more than ever because striking out is no longer seen as a bad out. Guys are willing to swing and miss rather than try to cut down and put it in play. I don't think that means they're less patient.

I do agree that bullpen usage/pitching changes have contributed greatly.

All this pace of play crap is all manufactured bull**** fluff because they see manufactured bull**** fluff succeeding everywhere else and they want to try it here too. That's all it is. None of it makes any sense.

It isn't going to change the pace of play but Caulfield was saying how taking commercial time away would generate blow back similar to what led to the demise of Fay Vincent. All i'm saying is that Manfred can have his cake and eat it too by cutting down on commercials a bit and use the method I mentioned above to make the commercials artificially seem less intrusive.

I'm generally against most of what Manfred is trying to do in regards to pace of play as he's going after very small nitpicky things rather than the REAL root causes of the drag in pace.

The Yankees are considering dropping the facial hair policy. They are also considering dropping the long hair policy as well. This all stems from some push back the organization is receiving from fans and players regarding Clint Frazier.

Clint is going to end up having to shave his hair as a minor leaguer to kill this garbage. Love his reaction to it:
