Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yeah I don't think any of that stuff matters. We went out and got Chappie for the specific reason that his value was low after his domestic violence incident. I don't think Mariners fans are booing when Nelson Cruz hits home runs. Melky made a whole fake website to get people off his back, didn't work, got suspended, got paid. I don't think the majority of people care, or would be taken into account even if they did. The wheels keep turning.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
BTW I didn't know this wrinkle until I was watching the Jays game last night but the "heartfelt" apology statement that Marte made was signed by his agent rather than him. I mean, I know that's par for the course in a lot of respects but if you want to come across as genuinely sorry than the least you can do is sign your own damn statement.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The team operating with a sense of morality is the same team left behind in the competitive market.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So even though he's suspended, he's still gonna get those millions of dollars in his contract? Mlb needs stricter rules on that. Like voided contracts if caught. Guys I'm sure would care lots more about being caught if it drastically impacts them financially compared to being caught and having their future millions to fall back on.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I agree that voiding the contract is unrealistic but what I do really like the fact that he's automatically disqualified from the playoffs because of this should a miracle happen and the Pirates make it.
That would be a pretty tough pill to swallow watching them from home.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Agree 100%, I think the playoff ineligibility is the key. If you want to get guys to stop taking PED's, you need to punish the entities that reward them for doing so. I think that is a great way to incentivize teams to do their own due diligence and not just look the other way.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Vice Sports had a good article on Marte, talking with Victor Conte. Conte basically said that the drug Marte took is too easy to find in your system.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Disappointed about Marte, like watching that kid play, and he's so talented.
The risk still outweighs the reward, 80 games, no playoffs, isn't a big deal if you play on a middling or crappy team.
There's really only one way to get the message across, and unfortunately it's a lifetime ban for any offense.
Zero tolerance policy is really the only way to discourage any use of drugs. That would really make players think, is this really worth it.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You can't void contracts for PED suspensions. You're an owner and need to conveniently get that bad contract off your books? Would be a shame if this substance made its way into your body somehow....Comment
